Weirfan I was just gonna post this on WRX and decided it wasn't worth it, so I'll do it here.
1) going into it, thinking about resale is stupid, but I realize in the age of everyone knows everything (ie the internet) it's a factor
2) if resale is a factor then this is how I look at it, the upfront cost minus resale! That's it, NOT the % recouped. To illustrate that:
$1300 7 iron OEM set vs. $650 for the component set (same shaft same grip). Resell OEM for $800, resell the component set for $150. 👈 is how I look at it. If buyer needs a clubmaker to build the set, THAT is a service and is not OTR. Go to club champion and look at what they want to build an OEM set and talk to me! I am getting NO service on an OTR set therefore components cost vs. OEM set is a fair cost comparison.
Re drivers, I have conceded long ago that components are so far behind the OEM,s , it's just not worth the debate or comparison. Irons and to a smaller extent wedges, it is more of a fair comparison. The other factor is the cost of aftermarket graphite shafts, which IMO is and always has been out of control. There is no way for components (drivers) to have a fair fight.
