I'm not questioning the merits of a mallet over a blade putter. I don't buy into (pun intented) the idea that we need $1500 irons, $600 drivers and $400+ putters to magically improve our score.

Typhoon Too much tech out there for any serious golfer to use an old Anser.

I know some pretty serious golfers (+ cap) who are incredibly good putters with very basic low-tech designs. It's a feel and balance thing. Tech might sell, but I'm not convinced it's going to sink more putts.

sdandrea1 I'll not be the one to argue with that.

Esthetics are definitely a personal thing, as is weight.
That said, one should be able to mount a chunk of metal to the end of a shaft. If done right, aligned properly on the end of a shaft, one should be able to putt fairly well.
Given the right 'shaft' one could mount a rock on the end of a shaft and be able putt fairly well.

With one exception (an old Ping JB5) I've been using mallets for at least 20 years. I'm reading some of the Lab putter comments wondering if a putter that I paid $400 for would drastically effect my short game and I can't visualize that it would....probably because my weakness is not hitting enough GIRs, not putting.

Had one in my hands at Dicks. Didn't hit any putts with it, but it just felt like it swings itself.

        It's how Grog invented golf!!

I wish Ron Popeil would come out with a putter.

Putting would be so easy then because.......'we'd know the secret!'

Thinking of getting one. It helps to know if I don't really like it I can always sell it on the Golf Buzz forum for $12 shipped and I can save on ebay fees and on shipping with Pirate Ship.

Driving and putting save my ass. Everything that happens in between is a moderately controlled accident.

sdandrea1 I was a good putter with my low tech Ping Redwood Anser. Like the people you say you know, they probably are satisfied with their putting because it’s not bad. That’s fine…. Some people as you know don’t care to try to improve. They’re fine where they are.

As I mentioned in another thread, the Callaway Square 2 Square putter did the same for me as the LAB at half the price. TM is out with one too that I haven’t tried. No need to spend $400 if you don’t want to. The Cally can be had for the same price as their standard putters

I'm arguing your sales pitch quote above. The ProbTours are littered with "serious" golfers using old tech.

Walterjn Center shaft just points the wrong way for me. i have a scotty del mar that i absolutely hate to even look at... that putter is lethal and i hate that it works so well because i want to use so many of my other putters and just don't.

sdandrea1 I don’t see the argument. When was the last time someone on tour won with a set Hogan Apex’s from 1975, A persimmon driver and a 1975 Anser putter? Don’t say they get paid to use new stuff because you just said they are using old stuff.

You have to take advantage of the tech that’s out there. It might not work for everyone but if you’re looking to improve, you have to be aware and try it.

Birdsboro it’s not a normal center shafted putter you see at a mini golf place. I can’t putt with those either. These now have the shaft lean as part of the tech
