VigilanteTrail So who out there has fairly extensive knowledge/use of the Gen 5 driver and how it compares to the Gen 4? I think I remember @Sparky having experience with several models?
You are correct sir! I am a PXG driver ho.
Gen 4 is a solid head. I used the standard X. I also tried the XT (didn't like the shape) and XF (bigger looking than I like).
Gen 5 is a step up. Better looking. The big change is the fiber crown being much bigger over Gen 4, allowing more weight redistribution. The moveable weights are positioned more outside, giving a little more impact to weight changes. In all, quite a bit more forgiving than Gen 4. It is easily worth whatever price difference there is between Gen4 and Gen5. At $199, I'd get two or three. š
Here is the best thing I can say - The Gen 5 has been in my bag for 19 months now. And I just picked up a 7.5* head (mine is 9*). I'm a high fader, so I am trying the 7.5 lofted up to close the face.
I liked the Gen6 look, but heard of only minimal gains/improvements over Gen5. The new Black Ops is getting some rave reviews though.
Shafts - of the stock shafts, the Riptide is pretty good. Hated the Cypher. The Tensei Blue seems nice, but I never seem to get along with them in drivers. I played an Xcaliber Avalon 5 stiff in my Gen 5 for 8 months, and then picked up a Fuji Ventus Velocore 5S. That shaft has been stellar for me. SS is probably 95-98 or so now.
