  • Looking for recent feedback on Shorter Length Drivers

colej you got something real funky going on. Under 130 with a wedge, but 270 with driver? These do not add up.

Par4QC Not any more. She had to go shorter remember?

Forgot that. My brain is mush right now and I've still got 2 flights and 3000 miles to go. Travel whimp I am.

Typhoon FYI you driver distance should be 2x your PW (45-48 degree) carry distance.

Almost exactly for me. Unfortunately, my driver only goes 220 or so 😦

colej No I haven't. I was struggling with the longer lighter stuff so I threw an old Saga 70 in at 44.5" and was doing well, but now I'm hot and cold with that too. It's just me swinging poorly; I can't even hit a GW consistently these days and wedges used to be a strong part of my game.

colej Yea that formula never worked for me even when I was younger and hitting it 260, I always hit my irons short, maybe 120 PW tops. It's pretty close now though PW 105 driver 200-220.

Typhoon you driver distance should be 2x your PW (45-48 degree) carry distance.

Seems to be spot on with my 44"1/2 driver. That's what I prefer: a mid-low trajectory shaft in 65-70gr range at 44"1./2 and D0 swingweight. I seem to loose control going lighter and longer.

Luc_Van_Daele Heavier weight is the answer to keeping the height down. My pro has a Cobra Rad Speed driver that he hits too high. It has a HZRDUS Blue in it at 60 grams and he wanted me to tip trim it an inch. I told him no, not wrecking the shaft by doing that. It’s already a low spin shaft and his spin is fine. He just hits it 34 yards high. I told him he needed a heavier shaft. I applied strips of lead tape to the middle of the shaft, 10 grams 14” down from the grip. It brought his height down to 27 yards…. Right where he wanted it.

colej I used to be similar, I hit down too much and the ball went too high w too much spin. I literally used to use distance balls to cut my spin down 😂. Now that I “stopped” leading w my hands and not being so steep, I’m getting much better distance from the irons. I also get to use real golf balls now, so I don’t have to hit a chip and run at everything around the greens. YMMV, but that’s what I had to get away from.

I just built me a short driver, 44". Not for driving holes, but for those pesky 175 yd. Par 3 holes. Used an old Power Play 3000, 10.5 driver head; only about 350cc it looks like. Heavier (for me) shaft @ 67gr., plus added 7 gr. to head.
Should be interesting IF I can hit it straight enough. Details after next round.

DC300 I have boxes of Pro Vs and Maxfli Tour X balls that I can’t use because I spin them too much. Carry my driver 275 for a total distance of 274. My PW goes 135 and ends up at 125. I don’t get to play much so the fact it’s straight is good enough for me. It is funny though because you watch my drives explode off the club and fly though the air and after all the wows I get the 3500 plus rpms of spin only make it go 10 yards past the guys I play with.
