Christmas pot luck today so Sunday made a home batch of slow cooker baked beans. I don't make these often as I prefer to make my special chilli but somebody else put down chilli ( which was pretty blah)
So soaked the beans all day Sunday, cooked them Sunday evening then put everything into the slow cooker for 10 hours on low , turned it off at 630 am Monday. Smell actually woke me up at 3am and of course had to have a couple spoons....yum.
Did things a bit differently this time to get a unique flavour, used a bottle of maple/ bourbon BBQ sauce, a cup of real bourbon. Some people dont like to but I added 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar. 1 pound of cooked maple bacon and 1.5 cups of diced spiral ham I had in the freezer.....turned out GREAT !
Would have used more cayenne pepper but kept the heat very low to keep everyone happy.
Gonna make this again for the boys on our Spring Walleye trip.
