rsvman2 I highly doubt Phil will ever win the US Open. He had two incredible chances; at Winged Foot he decided to try a hero shot from the trees instead of punching out, took a double, and lost by a single shot. Can't remember the venue, but who can forget him air-mailing the straightforward par 3 16th hole to take bogey and lose to Justin Rose by a single shot?

Winged Foot was 2006 - Ogilvy got up and down for par from short of the 18th to win by 1, with Montgomerie and Mickelson both making double bogey on the last hole to finish one shot behind. (Furyk was also T2 after bogey to finish, and Harrington finished 2 behind with three bogeys to finish.)

Rose's US Open was 2013 at Merion - the sixth time that Mickelson had finished second at the US Open (to Stewart at Pinehurst in 1999, Woods at Bethpage (2002), Goosen at Shinnecock (2004), Ogilvy at Winged Foot (2006), Glover at Bethpage (2009), Rose at Merion). The best opportunity of those was probably 2004 - 1 ahead with 2 to play, but a double at 17 and a Goosen birdie left him 2 shots behind.

I am going to assume you had to look up most of that and cannot recite things like that from memory. Hell, I don't remember who won the US Open before Covid took it down and have to think back to who won the British Open each year (and sometimes I don't remember even though I watch most of it).

US Open Contest coming tomorrow afternoon/evening to Buzzville. Do your homework & get your pick ready. 🏌

I'm sitting here right now trying to remember who won the US Open LAST year. I know it wasn't a big name. Was it Scheffler? No clue.

Looked it up, Rahm? Had no idea

garyt1957 Proving the point I made in the LIV thread. None of this means diddly-squat.

For what it's worth (prolly about what you paid for it) I remembered how Phil lost the two I mentioned without looking anything up. I remembered, too, that he finished second at Pinehurst, famously played when his wife was about to go into labor. IIRC, he was wearing a pager during the final round and said he would have left the course if the pager had gone off. The rest of his gaffes in the Open I had forgotten about.

Ouch. $250 is a lot for a single day pass. The Masters weekend is only $140 I think, and they don't rape you when you go to get food or drink there.

I'd say it more proves the point that my memory is shot and I don't care much about pro golf.

Out of my range on general principles… I go to the U.S. Open when at Oakmont…Have an acquaintance who is a member and he gets me in for one of the weekend days…Otherwise I watch in the air conditioned comfort of home with the cheap food and drink…

I've been to the last two opens at Oakmont, I got a buddy I go with Thursday and Friday.

It's a beautiful venue, fairways are faster than most greens I play. The speed of the greens themselves it's just ungodly

Going to be an interesting open for sure, lots of buzz with LIV and it's players in the field. And if any of them are in contention, it will get even buzz'ier😉

I should add maybe Na will bring an extra 6 iron (a la Duvalfan from FGI) and settle things up.
