Must be Spuzzer's Canadian air I'm breathing now - but...

38 of the top 50 are non LIV players. Not everyone gets in the Majors and almost everyone wants to play
in them, well.....with a couple of exceptions like the late Bruce L.. 😉

Eguller 38 of the top 50 are non LIV players.

Par4QC 12 that 'were' in the top 50. Out of 48 players

Let's be honest....the 12 and the 38 all got their ranking from watered down fields. And from limited fields, sometimes. Both which is BS. I'll not mention the sometimes 'revolving' changes in the OWGR for qualifications. Gonna have them?....set them in stone. Forever.

Was Jack ever ranked #1? No. Did he need it? Not on your life! 😉

Eguller Before LIV, the Majors also gave the winner a 5 yr exemption on PGA Tour, doesn't take much for their game to drop, and a 5-year free pass is handy.

Par4QC Golf Rankings didn't start until 1986, so it was kind of after Nicklaus career. Also I believe he never won the Verdon, not that his scores weren't good enough, he didn't play enough rounds.

I think the rankings might be in for an overhaul in the next 5 years. jmo

The PGA Tour will need to give up the fight at some time, or hope the Saudi investment firm decides it doesn't like the numbers. The tour sponsors aren't going to be able to keep kicking in more money to compete with the investment fund, particularly now that the pandemic golf boom seems to be over and we're technically in recession in the states. The only other chance, and it is a realistic one in this day and age, is for the tour to get the feds to kick in some prop up money like the banks and car companies do, but I doubt that their collective political donations exceed that of their competitors 😃.

Remember, the PGA is a charity. Gubment should not be giving any money to just 1.

Par4QC Should not. But that doesn't seem to stop them from finding a way if it brings in more political contributions.

Spuzz Maybe Rory's going to be like Sanjuro in Yojimbo or Joe in A Fistful of Dollars. He'll make tons of money off both sides before it's over. Except he'll keep it all.

          Par4QC

Bullshit. It's good for BOTH sides, not "ripping golf apart". Competition is good, keeps both sides on their A game. LIV got the PGA Tour to wake the fuck up and some people are enjoying watching both tours. Just shut up, Rory.

sdandrea1 Yeah, maybe it might wake everyone/everything up. People are so against LIV because of where the money comes from. Yet, they only look at the 'surface' money of the PGA. But, who's to say a country cannot undergo a radical change, through sports/due to sports?

Maybe you'll 'get the call' to sit at the table. 😲👍

            https://www.golfdigest.com/story/pga-tour-countersues-liv-mickelson-dechambeau

"In a Wednesday night filing, the tour asserts that the case is not about unfair competition—“if anyone is competing unfairly, it is LIV, not the tour”—and accuses the LIV-backed lawsuit as a “cynical effort to avoid competition and to freeride off of the tour’s investment in the development of professional golf.”

“Golfers who join LIV must sign long-term exclusive contracts that require them to participate in all LIV events and prohibit them from playing in any tour events occurring in the same week as any LIV event [or any conflicting event whatsoever],” reads the counter. “LIV’s statements regarding golfer freedom are a thinly veiled public relations ploy concocted to disparage the tour and deflect criticism from LIV’s own restrictive business model.”

"Among the tour’s reasoning is that LIV requires players to compete in every event on its schedule, that players have surrendered their promotional rights to LIV, that players have requirements to show up to its marketing and sponsor events and that players can’t respond to interviews or media appearances without LIV’s blessing. Any existing player sponsors also must be introduced to LIV, and that players must wear LIV-branded apparel.

Additionally, the tour accuses LIV Golf of a coordinated campaign of “ongoing interference” with contracts between the tour and players strictly so LIV can convince a court to alter the tour’s structure to benefit LIV at the expense of the tour."

The commitments required by the LIV contracts don't seem unreasonable given the huge up-front payouts the players received. Those are contracts with both sides in agreement. The PGA has commitment requirements governed by organization rules, not contracted payment agreements . PGA = if you join our tour we'll let you win all the money you can, but you have to honor these commitments. LIV = we'll pay you truckloads of money up front to honor these commitments AND you can win buttloads of money in the events. Apples and Oranges?
