No question, but ‘some’ of his wins did come from for lack of a better term obscure tournaments back then. Where the competitors were far from the top level of that time.

Key word there is some. And it takes nothing away from his accomplishments. Just like Byron Nelson’s 1945 record of winning 18 out of the 30 tournaments he played in. Including 11 in a row.

But it being in the WWII era the competition certainly wasn’t the same.

Subsonic

It is. But many of the top athletes of past eras most likely could compete very well today. It’s impossible to prove, so purely speculation.

Hard to imagine a Babe Ruth or Ted Williams wouldn’t be just as good competing today. Same with golf. Hard to believe a Snead, Hogan and Nelson (all born in the same year 1912) wouldn’t be able to compete at the highest levels today.

Again true. But just looking at a Ted Williams and his numbers and considering he missed ~ 5 years of his prime because of WWII and the Korean War and with his eyesight he said he could see the stitching on the baseball on a pitch. Lol. That he wouldn’t be great in any era.

But that’s what makes sports a great topic of debate. Btw Ted Williams was the real life character that John Wayne played in many of his movies.😉

I doubt you’ll see much of that. Although you never know. Lol. Norman has said they’ll change things up next year. I think you’ll see them doing whatever it takes to get world ranking points.

So less of a clown show and more traditional is what I would expect. I also read where he said they’re pretty much all set member wise for this year.

Although I would expect if a big name wanted to jump to LIV he’d take them regardless of not having more room for players. Lol

We still have a chance then? 🤣

Sneakylong Oh well. Give the Shark a call and see if he can put a little wrinkle in the works.

I truly believe Teddy Ballgame was the greatest hitter of all time

Sadly I don’t remember him when he played. He retired in 1960 when I was 5 and Carl Yastrzemski took his place in left field the following year. Not too shabby of a ball player himself. Reggie Jackson called Yaz the greatest he ever saw. Referring to his 1967 triple crown season.

I had a baseball signed by the 1957 Red Sox that included Williams. That was stolen 30 years ago in a burglary. They didn’t take a basketball signed by the Celtics team of 1965-66. Still have that.

Boston was and is a great sports town. Lots of great ‘legacies’ made there. Lol

Ok, strange Bernhardt story. I was working for a compny about 8 years ago. I was the "new" controller and the gal that I replaced was in town and my whole team went out to lunch with her. She was probably in her mid 50's. Anyway she is talking to everyone and said she was kind of dating some golfer on the Senior Tour. Being a curious golf fan, I asked who it was. Bernhardt Langer she replied. I got back to my office and looked up Mr. Langer on the googles and it indicated that he was a married man of many years with no mention of a pending divorce. So, was she telling fibs, or is Mr. Langer the king of cheaters?

Latest rumor mill story is that Hideki is being offered $400 million to switch to LIV and Captain the Asian Team...Also, the Asian Tour has been rumored to have opened their arms to any LIV golfer for any of their tournaments and they can get World Ranking Points to qualify for the Majors...Feherty starts next week at Bedminister and is also going to produce a New Series on TV for LIV (Is a TV Contract for LIV Golf coming in the near future???)...McCord rumored to be next to sign...Just fired up another batch of popcorn as it's getting interesting...

Eguller This is a very realistic perspective on this whole mess

Well, I pretty much said most of what's in that article in this thread, but it's nice to see it summarized in one place.
