IIRC the Ryder Cup participants were not paid years ago. Wasn't it 20-25 years ago the players were "whining" that the RC generated a lot of money and they got none? I think that changed, but I don't know to what extent. I also seem to recall that the captains were not paid directly, but did receive expenses for travel, et al. Obviously participating in the event gives you more fame that could generate income for you afterwards. Joe Public sits back and thinks "well they are already millionaires that should play for pride and for their country" while someone is collecting a boatload of money behind the scenes.

WGC, Tiger's tournament, all no cut, all guarantee a paycheck, all award world ranking points.
The 3 day tournament existed as far into the 60s, the TV needed 18 holes on Saturday and Sunday. Still most of the 3 day tournaments were 72 holes, 36 holes the last day.
PGA Tour plus Marketing did away with the 18 hole playoffs, rearranged the order players are sent out among other changes. good/bad not sure.

The PGAT did not care about him until he won a Major. He does not owe the PGAT a damn thing.

How did he do that? They removed him before he signed. LIV Tour was 'giving him permission' to continue to do his duties as needed/when needed...... no penalties/banning/ fines, etc..
Henrik and Fanny have a foundation to keep funded/run. And he has a family to support. That, is his life, not the Ryder cup, nor the PGA-DP Tours. Those speaking against him are the assholes. Nasty ones, at that.
