If you are talking about Rousey I agree, but if you are talking MMA I disagree. Of course if they knew it would last 48 seconds maybe not, but the only thing they are paying for is a drawing card. There will be fighters that will garner $3 million in the future.

Conor McGregor got $3mil for his last fight with Diaz, and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets
even more if there's a third match with Nate.
When you consider there's a UFC XXX almost every couple weeks to 1 per month,
there's a LOT of money to be earned.
You'd think with so much exposure the UFC market would be over saturated, but that doesn't
seem to be the case at all.....Dana White might just be the P.T.Barnum of the 21st. century!
Like him or hate him,the dude knows how to promote and make some major $$$$$$$$!

Although the sport isn't new, it being mainstream is....it has hit the big time....as long as they don't fracture and make the mistakes that boxing has, I see the sport continuing to grow or at least stay as big as it is now....they are debuting the women's featherweight division at ufc 208, with a title fight with Holly Holm. I knew it was a matter of time before expansion of the women's division. it's too bad it wasn't Holm vs. Cyborg, but she can't keep off the junk.

darpar Dana White might just be the P.T.Barnum of the 21st. century

I thought he sold the business.....no?

letthebigdogshunt yes, Rousey or anyone who lasts only 48 seconds more than 1 fight like she did. I credit her for getting in the ring, but this was like Michael Spinks vs. Mike Tyson, when he unified the belts. Spinks was uncomfortable and it was evident, as it was on Rousey's face. She had her last big pay day.

I thought the same thing when I watched it.
I saw about 3 times in that fight where she could have shot Nunes legs but did not.
I thought that the fight she lost her title in, she was doing too much standing up too. Then she appeared to get dazed and started chasing too much.

I hope she takes her retirement and builds a career for herself that leads to opportunities that benefits herself and someone else. As someone who knows some of her secondary family, she goes on to be an active member of society.

Watch the Nunes/Tate fight and then watch the Nunes/Rousey fight.....Night and day difference.....Albeit the same outcome, Tate kept her distance and was able secure a takedown, and get to the clinch and almost got a second TD. She moved side to side, circled.....Much harder to get hit vs. Rhonda staying in the pocket and standing straight up. It's like she didn't watch any of Nunes fights, she could have learned something from the Tate fight for sure.

        Sorry.
This "sport" brings to mind something Michael Vick would support, except these people do this of their own free
        will.

Its not as "cock-fighty" as you think. Its kind of an evolution of an old Greek sport called Pancrase with wrestling and kickboxing mixed in (with other stuff). At times it s very brutal though.

I suppose if the fighters were being trained to kill each other for the purpose of gambling, and then later shot and killed themselves and then buried, I'd see your point.

Hoss7504 it truly is mixed martial arts, that's why I love it, it's fun to watch the different styles go head to head and see what wins out in the end. Lot more too it then KO's, but you are right, no getting away from how brutal it can be at times.
