Sneakylong I would think that they’d now take either Shedure Sanders or Cam Ward. The cap hit is enormous letting Watson go.
I suspect that the Browns will go through the 2025 season with Watson on injured reserve, then release him as a post-June 1 cut at the start of the 2026 season - going by Over the Cap, that would mean $73m of dead money in 2026, and $27m in 2027 (as well as the $73m that he counts against the cap in 2025). That's a lot of money, but the cap will probably be around $300m by 2026, and a team can get by without a quarter of their salary cap, particularly if they know in advance that they're going to be taking that hit.
Something else to consider - the Browns had taken out insurance against Watson being injured, and may get some salary cap relief if he does miss most or all of the 2025 season.
