Eli is an interesting one. They'll be a big debate on whether he deserves to be in the HOF. He was a very mediocre regular season QB, but a great post season QB. Nice article about whether he's a Hall of Famer. Pros and cons.
His 210 straight games without an injury in 16 years and winning two MVP awards with two dramatic drives winning two Super Bowls against the winningest / greatest QB ever is impressive. He's one of just 13 QB's in NFL history to win two Super Bowls.
The case against him is his very mediocre 117-117 record. Including 9-26 in his final three seasons. His career passing rating of 84.1 ranks 60th. Geno Smith has an 84.8. for comparison.
He was never an All Pro and only went to 4 Pro Bowls. Few consider him one of the 5 best QB's in the era in which he played.
However, I say he belongs in the HOF. For me beating Brady and the juggernaut Patriots in two Super Bowls (one the Patriots were undefeated) in such dramatic fashion puts him over the top for me.
The pass and catch by David Tyree on his helmet and the pass and tip toe sideline catch by Mario Manningham to keep the game winning drives alive are etched in my memory in those two Super Bowls.
He played in an era of great quarterbacks. At first glance he pales in comparison to some of them. But when you beat the best quarterback ever in his prime and the best team of that era twice in Super Bowls because of your play.
You get in.
