Bought the new Callaway two years ago, $399.99. Still playing it, so I guess that accounts for something.

Then again - I'm a lefty and despite an abundance of LH offerings compared to 10 years ago - it's still very rare that I can find exactly what I'm looking for, with both shaft and head combo.

Would you pay an additional $50 bucks for the off chance of 20 more yards and playable? That's ultimately what it comes down to. I gambled and won. Yea for me! LOL... (all the way to the bank, I guess)

Me....but only because I'm getting fitted. Would not pay that for a guess off the rack.

I driver/woods fitting must be more involved because a putter fitting was like $10.

Like someone said before, I already putt well with what I have. A $400 putter...just don't see the refinement other than ""snotty says its the best evah".

I will say that I've owned one Scotty back around '04. Was a nice putter. The putters he's putting out these days I think have very nice, high quality finishes to them. They LOOK great, IMO. But to me its almost like BMW's. They used to be not as common so there was a certain cache' to them. Now, at least in SoCal it seems everybody has one. So if I were going to spend upwards of $400 on a putter I'd want something w/a little more exclusivity. As it were when Nike dropped the price on everything I picked up a Method Origin B1-01 for $149. It's a very nice putter and one thing's for sure - they're gonna be pretty goddam exclusive shortly. Not that a lot of people were buying them anyway. It doesn't have quite the finish they put on a Scotty nowadays but its very well made with a nice finish.

I would never spend my own toy money on a SC putter, however, I did not turn down the one SWMBO surprised me with 2 years ago at Christmas (she grabbed it used for $200). It is a very good putter, but I am actually a bit better with my PING Craz-E. They're kind of like Harley Davidson motorcycles to me - not worth the price tag, but they have a cult following.

I'd pay $400 for a SC putter if it would make me hole three more mid-range putts a round and/or promise to take 3 or more shots off every round. Heck, I'd pay $500.

Problem is that I'm already a very good putter. Had a 24-putt round a couple of weeks ago. I doubt a Scotty is going to improve on that.

I would never begrudge anyone for playing a "Scotty", hell we're all in the ho boat to a varying degree.....I suspect there are a lot of Scotty owners who have played the same putter for years and have spent less total cash on putters than I, who's the sucker in that scenario....I don't like the holier than thou attitude some folks seem to have as it relates to my gear is better than yours....I know it goes both ways and it's not necessarily an OEM or high end gear owner trait.....nothing wrong with having nice stuff.

I once found an intact SC shaft in a trash can on the course. Snapped at the neck, not the shaft itself. Put it up on eBay and it sold for $48. Not a bad days work!

Sneakylong a driver or a putter, both clubs are used the most out of all the clubs in the bag.

How's that work? I may be one of the very few(on this site) that would hit driver 14 times per 18 holes. This is why I think anyone is goofy for spending $100 or more for a driver.

I hit driver 14 times a round also, but may go a few rounds without hitting certain irons or fairway woods. The point is I don't mind spending more money on clubs that are used the most and the putter would be at the top of that list.

When I was young, I moved from Saskatchewan to Hull, Quebec. One of my friends asked me why. I told him, "Hey, according to the latest census, the women to men ratio in Hull is 5 to 1." He said, "Oh, great. Then you can really feel like a loser when you strike out." I use that same reasoning with my clubs. I never want to own a $400 putter because then I would feel like an even bigger loser when I have a 39 putt day.

I wouldn't spend that, but IDGAF what people do as long as they're happy and not hurting anyone else.

Having a bunch of money that you didn't spend when you die doesn't do you any good. Enjoy a $500 Scotty if you want, but don't pretend it's guaranteed to hole more putts.

I love my White Hot 2ball SRT. I even bought an identical 2nd one in case something happens to the first. I'll use it til I'm dead.

I held a SC bulls eye practice putter, that I was told was one of 2 made personally by SC for TW. I was told it was worth around $60K. No, I didn't putt with it.

I don't get it, I don't really see the big obsession with Scotty, but if I truly would make more putts, I'd be ok to pay for it. That's assuming I play enough to care, but I wouldn't buy virtually anything with the amount I have been playing. I like my Rife, so I'm set, but if you think about the club you use the most, it's the putter, so I guess it makes sense to have what you want.

Snead ( or Hogan ? ) said there are two games for golf, one is in the air and one is one the ground.
To me, if I like the putter and could line up the putter head with the intended line 90% of the time, then, I could adapt to this putter very quickly.
I have at least one putter of any major design and I could play with any one of them once I get used to the weight and the feel for swinging it. I could not do this even 20 years ago.

I have a couple of S.C. putters , one I bought more than ten years ago brand new off the rack from a pro shop when they were switching over to a single major OEM brand and had to rid of all the other OEM equipment.
I got it for I think $176 brand new with head cover ( below their cost ). I wish I bought 2 but money did not grow on trees.
Have another one several years ago when I had a serious injury and could not play golf for about a year. My brother sent a brand new SC to me to cheer me up. Sadly I could not even hold a putter back then so it remained brand new. Many times I thought about taking off the plastic wrap on the grip and take it out to the golf course.... I might have done that but I don't play much like I used to, so the temptation is minimized.

Actually I like my Ping Zing2 in BeCu and a Spaulding TP Mills in stainless steel. another 30 or so did find their way into the bag once in awhile. Through the seasons the greens around here have different speed and surface texture. I would take a putter I believe best for that day depending how I feel.

I haven't owned a lot of putters, but the original Carbite ZG I purchased around '93 is still the best putter I have ever used, which I still have. It's all personal preference. I remember the story about Nicklaus borrowing the bullseye putter that was painted white from a friend called "White fang." It had a broken off #2 pencil on the back of the shaft to form a "pistol grip" with leather wrapped over it. I think he won his 7th major at Baltrusol with it. He won the '86 Masters with a MacGregor Response ZT designed by Clay Long. Making it the first major won with an oversized putter.

Karsten Solheim was the man, Scotty Cameron just tweaked them. Wasn't the Futura the first putter of his own design?

I will say one thing about SC, Bettinardi, they make works of art, you can putt with, better or not..

I don't know much about the properties of one metal over another as far as feel, but if SC has found some blend of Stainless that is different, because I had a Futura Long putter and it did have a unique feel. Others SCs I have tried do have sort of a "tuning fork" type of feel when I have demoed them that is a somewhat sharper, crisper, than others. I don't know if there is some magic frequency, but only the original Pings I have tried elicit that sweet pop. Maybe there are others, but I don't really try to change putters. I have 3. A Ping Darby F Wrx, Carbite ZG, and a Liquidmetal Anser clone, and a Ping Anser I found in the parking lot of a movie theater. (It wasn't claimed in 30 days, so they gave it to me.)

Whatever the case, the common thread is confidence, if you don't have it, you might as well be putting with a pop bottle tied to a broom handle.

Collectors have driven SC items through the roof. $75.00 for a hat. The putters are so well balanced and meticulously made that they are the gold standard (IMHO) The price is steep but in this case, I feel they are worth it. I play a Cameron and Crown GoLo 5 and love it.

GLFTPS I agree they are works of art, but no 350 gram hunk of stainless is worth $3500 unless they have more money than brains. How a person spends their money though is their business and "you can't take it with you." As value is a perception, I can understand the collector side of it. If it makes one happy, I guess why not.
