I guess if you don't mind spending 400 bucks for a driver, you shouldn't mind spending 400 bucks for a putter, if that's what you want.

But I see a few guys using them at my club, and they use them often enough for me to ponder why in the hell they'd spend that much money to suck that bad.

I only hit it to see if I could tell what makes it a $400 putter vs. Hockey stick clone I putted the same with.

Yes, cost less, however the certified refinishing by SC will have more resale value. I would opt for the less cost if you're just going to game it and don't care about resale.
The model is one of the popular earlier model with Trillium insert. Make sure the restoration is done correctly.

Is the grip conforming ? No good picture showing the hockey style grip, I'd imagine it'll have to be thick enough to hold a shaft in it.

I don't have a $400.00 Scotty, but I do have a $379.00 Scotty (Newport Select M2). Like someone mentioned I don't see the difference in spending $400.00 on a driver or a putter, both clubs are used the most out of all the clubs in the bag.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. You will not lower your scores with changing equipment. We have a guy in our group (8 capper) who has some of the oldest equipment of anyone in the group. Old TM R7 driver, old Ben Hogan irons someone gave him, old Ping putter etc.. Most of his bag in full of other guys rejects.

With my Scotty I did change the $39.00 Matador grip. It appears to be made by Winn and I do not like Winn grips (can't clean them with soap and water). Anyway, do I putt better with the Scotty? Hell no. But my scores were the same when I played Tour Edge ironwoods and a 350cc Cobra driver.

How's that work? I may be one of the very few(on this site) that would hit driver 14 times per 18 holes. This is why I think anyone is goofy for spending $100 or more for a driver.

I don't care about resale value. I have that one and a longneck I found in a trash can. I don't change out putters really.... Drivers...that's different!

I once went into Van's Golf Shop with a pocket full of cash looking for a putter. I tried them all and walked out with a $45 Tiger Shark GW-3.

I'll admit....the Cameron $$$$$ doesn't bother me anymore. I think the putter is the most important club in the bag, if you find a megabuck Cameron that really catches your eye and feels perfect - that is 80% of the battle.

If I spent that on a putter, then maybe I'd at least stick to it for a while. When I can replace a putter for $20-$50, I tend to do so. Monthly, sometimes weekly.

I now have a Scotty Cameron Newport 1.5 (2009 model I believe) that was to the tune of $300 and some change to buy new, I believe. Those of you who know me, know that cheapness is in my ancestry and blood so I would never pay that much money for anything. I got it as a "Christmas Present" (read: hand-me-down) from my brother-in-law.

I've never putted better with any other putter I've ever tried. BUT, that's because it's the first time I've ever used a blade putter with a flare neck / little offset. I went and tried a couple other blades with little offset, and I putt just as good with those ones. Even though I have one, and I'll be gaming it for the foreseeable future, I don't know what all the hype is about them.

Bought the new Callaway two years ago, $399.99. Still playing it, so I guess that accounts for something.

Then again - I'm a lefty and despite an abundance of LH offerings compared to 10 years ago - it's still very rare that I can find exactly what I'm looking for, with both shaft and head combo.

Would you pay an additional $50 bucks for the off chance of 20 more yards and playable? That's ultimately what it comes down to. I gambled and won. Yea for me! LOL... (all the way to the bank, I guess)

I driver/woods fitting must be more involved because a putter fitting was like $10.

Like someone said before, I already putt well with what I have. A $400 putter...just don't see the refinement other than ""snotty says its the best evah".

I will say that I've owned one Scotty back around '04. Was a nice putter. The putters he's putting out these days I think have very nice, high quality finishes to them. They LOOK great, IMO. But to me its almost like BMW's. They used to be not as common so there was a certain cache' to them. Now, at least in SoCal it seems everybody has one. So if I were going to spend upwards of $400 on a putter I'd want something w/a little more exclusivity. As it were when Nike dropped the price on everything I picked up a Method Origin B1-01 for $149. It's a very nice putter and one thing's for sure - they're gonna be pretty goddam exclusive shortly. Not that a lot of people were buying them anyway. It doesn't have quite the finish they put on a Scotty nowadays but its very well made with a nice finish.

I would never spend my own toy money on a SC putter, however, I did not turn down the one SWMBO surprised me with 2 years ago at Christmas (she grabbed it used for $200). It is a very good putter, but I am actually a bit better with my PING Craz-E. They're kind of like Harley Davidson motorcycles to me - not worth the price tag, but they have a cult following.

I'd pay $400 for a SC putter if it would make me hole three more mid-range putts a round and/or promise to take 3 or more shots off every round. Heck, I'd pay $500.

Problem is that I'm already a very good putter. Had a 24-putt round a couple of weeks ago. I doubt a Scotty is going to improve on that.

I would never begrudge anyone for playing a "Scotty", hell we're all in the ho boat to a varying degree.....I suspect there are a lot of Scotty owners who have played the same putter for years and have spent less total cash on putters than I, who's the sucker in that scenario....I don't like the holier than thou attitude some folks seem to have as it relates to my gear is better than yours....I know it goes both ways and it's not necessarily an OEM or high end gear owner trait.....nothing wrong with having nice stuff.

I once found an intact SC shaft in a trash can on the course. Snapped at the neck, not the shaft itself. Put it up on eBay and it sold for $48. Not a bad days work!
