So, I live in a residential area in Oklahoma. Every summer I struggle to control the mosquitos in the back yard and front porch. I've used every type of insecticide known to man and non seem to work more then a day or two at most. I can spray certain areas (under porch steps/shaded shed areas) and mosquitos boil out. Give it a week and spray again and they boil out again. I don't have any standing water on my property, HOWEVER, I have neighbors on each side with untended yards that I'm sure has all kinds of standing water. One yard has weeds taller then my privacy fence, while the other looks like a small junk yard!

Most mosquito killers (baits) seem to be straight gimmicks, and I don't want to waste money on something that isn't going to work. Looking at trying a DynaTrap even though I know it will kill mostly non mosquitos but reviews make it seem to actually work.

Anyone have any suggestions for mosquito issues? I love to be outdoors/hate bug spray and the mosquitos love me.

wishbone I have thought of this in the past, as well as Purple Martin houses. Problem is my yard is small but with lots of mature trees, so not really a good place to put either bat or martin houses.

I suppose I could try it and see what happens, but I think it would be pointless.

I've been fortunate not to have to deal with skeeters, here or our other place. I do have bats. Sit out back and watch them hit the pool.

Purple Martins are great, but they're pretty aggressive. They'll dive bomb you!

You have to attack the source and the neighbors are the problem. Isn't there a code compliance department in Ardmore? That city dept. is very active here in Topeka and follow-up on all complaints and can write tickets after putting warnings on the door or in the mailbox. Your neighbors are a nuisance.

mikeintopeka We do have a code enforcement in Ardmore. But, when we have called in the past they pretty much tell us if it isn't visible from the street there isn't much they can do about it.....

Love 'em! They'll follow you around on a mower, if you're in their area and swoop for the bugs stirred up.

I thought Purple Martins were good against insect, but not mosquitos, as they are active in the day and mosquitos at night
