Compact low offset blades for me. I play these days to make all the correct shots I can, I get more enjoyment from that than agonizing over score. The course closest to me has a 400 yard right angle dogleg right hole. A 200 yard or 240 yard drive makes no difference, still 180 to 200 out. I try to hit a straight solid drive, no overswinging. If I end up 200 of the tee I go with a fade 4 iron that starts at the left edge and hopefully fades back to center about 50 yards out. A good pitch and putt and I’m thrilled with the par. Can’t pull that off with shovel irons. Just about all the courses I play are tree lined old school layouts. Knock down 125 yard 6 irons, 8 and 9 irons hoisted high over branches, hooded 4 irons punched out from under trees, that’s the shots I need and get from thin sole blades.

scotts33 it’s new from golf outlet America. Model 3. It appears to really help me. The flat roll with no hop before starting to roll allows me to take more of a stroke without blowing the ball by the hole which is my bugaboo. Semi mallet( looks like an old Ray cCook design).

Are they that old?? I think I bought mine in '11 or '12, something like that. They're supposed to be modeled after the Nike Machspeed, but you're right, they do look like the M2.

I looked again after you posted the pic and the gigagolf site came up with them on there and I saw the date was 2014... my bad... well someone who posted 2007 was bad🙄. I noticed they look like the Machspeed as well, I forgot about those.

I like irons that work, I don't really care about what other people think. I played a set of Cleveland TA7 (black) clones for years and years because they worked! Right now I'm playing Sterling SL irons because they WORK! I have debated getting some blades for the bling, just have never pulled the trigger because why?

I really only prefer the 8 & PW. Sometimes a SW is OK.

Something to think about. The hitting area of shovels to blades in the majority of iron heads is about the same. So it's the visual appearance more than any other factor of what golfers have as a perception.

The cavity or hybrid type head may absorb miss hits better and fly slightly straighter but all in all golfers perception is what is the most important factor. 5mm in area width (scored area-grooves) is minuscule. A shitty impact whether over size CB shovel or smaller blade is still a shitty impact. 😜

scotts33 very true on the sweet spot being virtually the same. The newer high-cor/ vft/ flex face, whatever you want to call it, does indeed make it easier to miss and get a better result though. I often get on the green with shots that are genuinely awful in terms of impact, I never got that with my older player cavities. That explains why I don’t own them anymore lol.

Consistently, no. So I'll reply...

I prefer #1 - the great looking irons (usually blades) that make others envious and feel buttery smooth when struck well. They may be less forgiving when the sweet spot is missed.

Why do I play them even though I'm not that consistent? That feeling at impact when you are. I'm chasing the dragon!

I wish shovels helped me, but they don't. Probably shouldn't be surprised as I didn't really gain any ground going from a 300cc driver to 460 either. At least my irons look sexy in the bag 😋
