Minimum shaft insert in driver adapter?

I have a Adams Speedline X something or other (white head) with an adapter. I shafted it a while back with a Pro Launch Supercharged Blue and today at the range noticed the shaft had crept out of the adapter a bit. Wasn't loose at all, did twist or anything, but something was off.

Took it home and pulled the shaft and realized something I had forgotten. The shaft will only fit about 5/8" into the adapter. I don't know if that is how those Adams adapters are suppose to be or not. Honestly, I think there may be a brass tip weight epoxied in the end of the adapter not letting me get full shaft insertion.

I went ahead and cleaned everything up good and reshafted, but used a couple brass shim pieces as there was a lot of wiggle room once the shaft was in the adapter.

Probably just need to get on Ebay and find a couple new adapters and reshaft using a new one.

There’s something in that adapter. I would not chance it at all.

I would go with an inch as a minimum. There would likely be too much stress on the tip at 5/8. Even if you don’t swing particularly hard, a nice heel shot and the head will go flying.

Yep. Clean it out until you see the shiny metal in the bottom of the adapter. Otherwise toss it.

colej I think so too, I can see brass. I guess I can try drilling it out? I just don't know why the epoxy holding it in hasn't let loose! Looks like I'm pulling the shaft again tomorrow. I'll put the adapter in the vice and try to drill out whatever is in the bottom.

I had been hitting this driver as good as anything ever until the last couple outings. I have a feeling the head started coming loose at some point.

I measured various adapters from Ping, TM, Callaway, Srixon, Titleist and Nickent. Most were 1.5" insertion depth. The minimum was 1.375".

You should be able to see where you adapter comes in at.

You could try just the tip, just for a minute, just to see how it feels…

OK, mystery solved. Apparently there was a brass tip weight installed? What I found strange was that after I drilled it out the bottom of the weight was flat and as wide as the shaft tip. Never seen a weight like that before, although I don't add weight so maybe that is a common type of weight?

Anyway, I now can fully insert the shaft into the adapter!

Brass weights for graphite have the bottom flat and are the diameter of the shaft. When tipping the shaft if you are anal enough, you tip the extra amount to cover the depth.

candukid I bought this driver second hand (on here I think) and I think it was head only, but it may have been shafted. Either way, I never knew there was a tip weight in this heads adapter. I think just a bit of the bottom section of a weight like the one you posted was left in the adapter, there was definitely no thinner shaft section. Either way I got it out and feel way more confident I won't send the head flying in the future!
