I haven't had high cholesterol yet any way although my dad does so I could be due. He initially improved his diet, exercised more and lost weight which made a significant difference, but he still needed medication. He didn't truly clean up his diet though as he cut back on things, but still eats sweets, red meat, etc.
I had issues with joint pain and arthritis (car accident and other injuries) and I have tried a # of things over the last 10-15 years. I do intermittent fast regularly, but I'm just not a breakfast person so it's easy for me to have dinner at 6pm and then not eat until lunch at 12 or 1pm the next day. I haven't found that to help with anything other than I tend to eat less and lose weight. I'm not sure intermittent fasting is worth it if it's a struggle for you and just having a better diet may be just as good.
I have found that diet and supplements seem to have helped. I have cut down on dairy, red meat and processed foods with lots of sugar. I also take Turmeric regularly which I know helps because if I stop taking it for a couple of weeks the pains come back.
I think I could probably do more with diet, but I'm not ready to completely give up red meat, wine, beer, french fries, potato chips and chocolate chip cookies. It's amazing how the weight falls off when I limit those foods.
