KCee relatively heavy shafts. My 3 wood now is 43.5 which I think is long
In the past, FW were shorter because most shafts were heavy-ish. Light shafts broke, in their infancy.
Modern shafts are lighter and sturdier, and the quest for distance has never been higher, imo, so here we are.
I see a lot of OEM clubs with 55g shafts in their fairways so they need to be longer length to maintain some kind of reasonable SW. I don't think they make all make the heads heavier although my Adams 3w is 217g. Original shaft off the rack was lightweight, and longer.I play 3w at 43" so no good for me.
Personally, I like a heavy swingweight feel, but I am old and decrepit, so I need lighter shafts.
In my next experiment, I will be using a SKF TT90 in a SMT 7w (226g head) at 42" long" in order to satisfy both SW feel and lightweight overall weight, while maintaining some distance.I don't like adding 8-10g tip weights for the feel I want. It's too much near the heel, imo. This should be a workable compromise.
