Quality of field (on paper) may be better, but the definition of "Top Golfer" is not what you'd think it is.
It's related to the farcical PIP Rankings (in order to allow Tiger to qualify is my guess) which means the likes of mouthpiece Joel Dahmen and his bucket hat may get more air time.
Quality of TV production will not be better.

toraider all I can say, for those that thought LIV wasn’t a threat, open your eyes. The PGA’s greed is sending them straight into panic mode. I love watching it.

To be completely honest, I don’t care how it all shakes out, I don’t have time to play golf, much less watch it, so for the 4x a year I’ll possibly watch, maybe it will be more pressure on the guys to win a bigger check.

This would have all been a avoided if the PGA wasn’t a bigger money grubbing whore than the NCAA, who also had to break to save themselves.

toraider While it will help the bigger names and bigger named tournaments, it will hurt some tournaments more that already hurt; even with a purse boost. Where some of those big names used to play occasionally, they will stop going. And with the huge (possible) boost with the Scottish Open, our local JDC tournament will really get hammered, as it always does.

Plus, I don't think the rich should always get richer. Esp. when they do not always win the tournaments that others will be cut out of. Just a similar set up as the LIV Tour, imo. It's really not going to be set up where someone will be able to 'play their way' into those lucrative sites. It's not intended to imo. The intention is for retaining the top of the PGA. LIV does not want the bottom.😉

Typhoon I was thinking the same thing. As a non-profit they are allowed to keep several years of operating expenses in the bank so I'm sure they have money, but all of a sudden there is a LOT more. Maybe they will claim next year as a loss like all the pro sports teams lol

They were never a charity, 501(c)(3). They are a 501(c)(6) - entirely different animal.
They are however, an organization with assets/holdings worth over 4.5 billion dollars (and keeps growing by hundreds of millions of dollars each year, at least up until now, as they roll over profits and the value of their investments increase).

All of these changes feel, to me, strongly like a magician performing a misdirection. Oooh, look at he bright and shiny new things!!! Does anyone believe any of them would have happened without LIV? The more the PGA concedes - the more Phil starts looking like Curt Flood. The issue of media rights, central to Phil's assertion of "obnoxious greed" hasn't even been addressed - unless there's something to the Tiger/Rory "non-green grass, stadium environment" venture? Not even sure what that means ... virtual golf?

At the meeting they discussed the PGA Tour giving up it’s non profit status which would’ve meant they would be taxed. But on the flip side they could bring in equity firms and other private investments from outside.

Supposedly Tiger and Rory were in favor of this, but ultimately they decided to not go that route.

KCee They have already hit up sponsors and 'contributors', prior to their meetings. This money is not coming from Monahan's/PGA account. It's coming from the accounts that you and I buy from weekly.

Yes, I knew they were a non-for-profit group and not a charity. I thought their business model benefitted charities and going forward the charities they supported would no long reap the same benefits now that more $ would be going to the players.

Hopefully a non cheerleading "reporter" will ask the hard question of the charities themselves as soon as the first tournament after the changes happens.

Mattyv The Tour doesn't donate much directly (3-4%?), but if more of the sponsors' money is going to player payouts then there could be less for the charities. Of course the players will now have more disposable income for charitable donations so maybe it will even out 🤔

KCee They should be okay, the vast majority of money going to charities is raised by local actual charities ... the PGA just claims responsibility for those in their self-promotions. Example: in 2018 they gave $42.7 million (3% of their $1.47 billion in revenue) while publicly taking credit for $190 million given to charity. Note: $12,532,502 of that 42.7 million went to The World Golf Foundation (the PGA Tour sits on their board).

I saw a commercial the other day with Kevin Kisner and his wife showing how they were 'all 'behind' this 1 charity/hospital or whatever. They had huge smiles while standing behind their $10K check. 10 fucking thousand dollars!! Yes, life changing to some 1 family, even would be for me, but nothing but dried up piss if distributed amongst the organization. None will ever hit a family.

You want to be someone, you want to really do some good with 'giving'.......bleed when you do it. Hurt yourself. Don't piss on a wildfire.

And it should. The local charities are a major player in organizing the volunteers for the week. No volunteers and you get what we saw on the early telecasts of events during the pandemic.

My opinion is that none of us truly know how much giving a person really does (monetary, time, etc.). For all anyone knows, the Kisner’s could be contributing to multiple charities/places, not just one, and maybe that does make them ‘bleed’ as you state. I’m not a believer that one needs to ‘bleed’ when giving, especially if ‘bleeding’ puts you at risk for being able to continue doing it.
