Golf after hip replacement?

Anybody here playing after hip replacement? How long after surgery were you able to play? I've seen elsewhere some guys were playing after 3 months. My surge...

garyt1957 very tough broad, then again, she was living with what her surgeon said was the worst hip joints he had ever seen and she was using only enough pain meds to keep the worst at bay. Very hard schedule.

Eguller Best of luck with the surgery. If things go well, you should have a go at swinging before Summer ends I'd bet.

Got the date 23 March, actually original date was the 16th, but I had to get some additional doctors checks and I needed to make sure my daughter (she the nurse) could be here.,

My schedule looks sounds to be a bit different, cut on Tuesday, released on Friday. After 2 weeks if all goes well, I should be driving, etc. Actually I see the doc the week after surgery, if I am walking even if using a cane for balance and I am off the good meds, he will give me the clearance to drive. BUT no putting till week 3 or 4. Then we re-evaluate when you can take a full swing.

He and my therapist made a point that the exercises/PT both at the facility and home is critical to recovery along with following the DON'Ts. Seems I have read that several times and several times here and sounds like recovery has been very successful. Very encouraging

Martee the only regret you'll have is that you didn't get it done sooner. I'm rooting like hell for my fellow hip replacement Brothers!!. 💪✊

LBlack14 4 weeks post surgery and truer words were never spoken....wished I would have done this sooner, like 3 years.

Those who have posted about hip replacement are spot on. PT, Walk, follow the instructions. All great advice

That's awesome! Would love to be back on a range doing light swings by mid-August. Fingers crossed.

I have some time though to go to the putting green and work on some putting. I'm guessing that will be fine to do, especially if I have one of those rubber ball retrievers at the end of my putter grip.

Interesting - my right leg is about an inch to an inch and a half shorter than my left now! The doc said this isn't unusual in chronic instances like mine, but I am curious if this will straighten itself out over time. Hope so!

Ah, great idea, the old mans rubber cup to retrieve golf balls. I hate digging balls out of the cup with the putter, it can easily damage the cup no matter how hard you try to be careful.

Someone mentioned that only regret will be not having it done sooner, well the two guys who I have been talking too said the same thing, why did they wait so long,

Heck, I'm thinking about getting one, and I'm still a pup!! I view it more as a lazy man's way to get the ball out of the cup, short of having someone else do it for you.....

Many yrs ago I picked up a used-but-perfect YES! Callie putter, not a mark on it. A "friend" asked if he could try it, so ...
I handed it to him. He usually digs the ball out of the cup with the putter head but I thought he'd never do that with my new-to-me 100% perfect putter. I didn't even think it was necessary to say don't do it.

He did.

And scratched the top of the head so the scratch cannot be ignored. I bitched. I was fuming. He said it's going to get marked up sooner or later so so what. If someone in our foursome leaves a wedge next to the green or needs their cart pushed along the fairway as they navigate a shot from the rough, I'll do that for anyone but I won't do it for him.

I do. If you're self conscious about it they make some that are smaller and less obvious. At times the only other way for me to get the ball out of the cup was to get down on both knees, and sometimes I couldn't get back up.

I was just making sure you 2 had one. I have one here somewhere, but never used it. My hip has never given me one single issue or pain since recovery from replacement. Now if I can just get these knees squared away.

You guys may not realize this, but it does me good seeing others have my same experience.
