Well this quite encouraging. Several golfers I played with had hip and knee replavements, all eventually abandoned golf, most seem to just not have the energy to play. Also all they do now is sit around, I am not sure the hip the issue, to lazy to put the work in to have the get up and go.

But since 2008, February I have tried everything to avoid the inevitable, left hip replacement. Exercises, shots, otc, script meds, PT and finally I come to the last option. Going to have relearn my gokf swing, all the adjustments and compensations I have been doing so I could play golf need to go. At least my golf buddies wont be laughing anymore at mu unique swing style

Got the word today, got the prep list, now to get the cllearances and then do it. I read other posts and threads here, so I have a few questions for my Doc on Monday. If I get my act together I should have a new hip by the end of March.

I had a left hip replacement a little over a year ago. Pain was unbearable for 5-7 years. Best decision of my life. I now can play golf pain free (except for my arthritic right knee ). My wife and I walk our dogs 3+ miles every day. I now totally trust my new hip on the golf course. Not yet 100% sure in other activities but pretty close.

It did take me awhile to trust my new hip and go back to my "“old" pre-hip swing. Now I can swing away with no pain. You will love your new life.

Left side (for right handers) sucks. I'm fortunate that it was my right hip. Now I've dealt with a fucked up left knee, and it sucks. I gave up for 2 years. Now after a Dr Marc Galloway says he can help, I'm very optimistic. My left knee feels better, right now, 10 weeks post op from the re-do, than it ever did after the 1st surgery. I haven't played in over 2 years and I'm soooo looking forward to the time I can get back out there, scores be damned!!
There's a bunch of Buzzards I wanna play golf with. Some of you, I wanna play golf with AGAIN!!

    Martee

    Hey Martee!

Right there with ya. My hip replacement surgery is scheduled for March 30th. Surprised that they could get me in as soon as they did.

The surgery takes about an hour. Doc said he would have me discharged and back home the following afternoon, if everything goes to plan. Just bought an electric lift recliner a week ago, and am already putting it to good use. Looking forward to getting this done and doing all of the required therapy afterward to get back to active living again!

Who knows... might even start swinging a club again before the end of the year if all goes well.

Although I have to gut out another month of suffering, there's hope again! 🙂

garyt1957 what about a cortisone shot? Might get you through the end of March?

I had my Harvard trained foot/ankle surgeon inform me that he hates to see cortisone shots
before doing surgery. I had 2 shots over time in the forefoot prior to my surgery and he wasn't pleased.
Weakens the tissue & slows healing. His warning, not mine.

A friend of mine had both hips and a knee done in nine months. She had one hip done, 3 months later her knee, 3 months later her other hip. This was 7+ years ago and she is now walking perfectly. Her surgeon told her that she would be able to get back to riding horses in a couple of years. Straddling a horse is probably a little bit harder than golf, once the hip finishes the healing.

I had my left hip replaced in 2011. I was 50. It was TOAST. fusing in three places. I was strict and cautious with PT and coming back respectively. PT is key. How that goes.. so do you. I could have golfed after 3 months but chose to wait 6.

I was very good for me.

FWIW- I had my right shoulder replaced two years ago in June. Much harder PT.. but once again. Worth every minute.

Follow YOUR plan and enjoy less pain and more movement!!! 60 now and back down to a 4 handicap

garyt1957 very tough broad, then again, she was living with what her surgeon said was the worst hip joints he had ever seen and she was using only enough pain meds to keep the worst at bay. Very hard schedule.

Eguller Best of luck with the surgery. If things go well, you should have a go at swinging before Summer ends I'd bet.

He should be swinging before summer begins!😁

Between your comments and the others, sounds like future golf will be good and pain free,

Got the date 23 March, actually original date was the 16th, but I had to get some additional doctors checks and I needed to make sure my daughter (she the nurse) could be here.,

My schedule looks sounds to be a bit different, cut on Tuesday, released on Friday. After 2 weeks if all goes well, I should be driving, etc. Actually I see the doc the week after surgery, if I am walking even if using a cane for balance and I am off the good meds, he will give me the clearance to drive. BUT no putting till week 3 or 4. Then we re-evaluate when you can take a full swing.

He and my therapist made a point that the exercises/PT both at the facility and home is critical to recovery along with following the DON'Ts. Seems I have read that several times and several times here and sounds like recovery has been very successful. Very encouraging

That's awesome! Would love to be back on a range doing light swings by mid-August. Fingers crossed.

I have some time though to go to the putting green and work on some putting. I'm guessing that will be fine to do, especially if I have one of those rubber ball retrievers at the end of my putter grip.

Interesting - my right leg is about an inch to an inch and a half shorter than my left now! The doc said this isn't unusual in chronic instances like mine, but I am curious if this will straighten itself out over time. Hope so!

PA-PLAYA I'll never bitch about having to mow my lawn ever again.

Wait, yeah I will. But it'll still be nice to be able to do it. 😉

I will and I have a rider. My goal is to have someone else do that shit. The Mrs. don't get it. 🙄

I just wanna play golf ⛳
