I'm not trying to make light of the situation, but this has to be a "once in a lifetime" kind of weather pattern. Do you guys who have lived in the south your whole life ever remember something like this?

It is close to once in a lifetime. There have been about three or four times we've approached zero degrees in the winter in Memphis (in my 58 years), and usually only for one or two nights. For the week, this is the worst weather winter week in my memory with several days of lows in the single digits and compounded with snow and ice.

Not taking anything away from what's happening down South, but you know it's not a very good winter, or at the very least, Feb., when up here we are setting record lows. Coming out of it now, while the South still suffers, is screwed up, for sure.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is asking the Feds for Fema funding to assist people who've had loss such as from burst pipes.

This is what I was hoping to see. Hopefully, the request will be granted and the thousands with burst pipes have relief waiting for them. They've been through enough.

Toulon I got notice from my apartment complex that pipes burst in about half the buildings. Not worried about my stuff as it is of little value if affected but asked apartment management to check to make sure there is no water there they need to clean up while I'm away. Such a PITA for many people.

When I heard it, I didn't believe it, but it's been a common refrain. To me, it's the kind of thing you say to try to take the sting out of what did happen. You think that was bad? Well, it would've been much worse had we not shut off your power. Typical reframing of the issue that happens with everything these days.

Like you alluded to, it's good this isn't your issue. I hope they have it all fixed up before you get back.

At least it'll be warm when you return. Average high is 61* and those temps are a comin' soon. Can't wait.

I love the new nickname for Ted Cruz. Calling him "Flyin' Ted". Guy jumps on a plane and heads to Cancun, gets busted for it, returns home and blames his 10 and 12 year old daughters. Gets asked if he came back early because he was caught, or because he really did feel guilty as he said. No answer. We're in good hands down here.

BTW, I would've high-tailed it to Cancun if I could've, too, but I'm not a Senator.

NBC 5 Anchor: We were all told there would be rolling blackouts. That wasn't true.

No joke. Some out from the beginning and still are. Others never went out at all. Incredible inequity in how this was handled.

We're fortunate we're now back and have been back save for 1 minute between 8pm yesterday and now. Nice having power again.

Asked Oncor CEO why people weren't told the truth from the beginning? Only said THAT'S A GOOD QUESTION. Yup. Good question that you can't answer. Many said they would've made other arrangements but didn't because they were told blackouts would be rolling not set on specific areas.

Lots of rage down here. Temps dropping down into teens again tonight and then it's all but over.
