On the plus side the power will be out again in two months after a nasty hail storm with tornado sirens rolls through.

I'd rather sweat than freeze but we're all different. I get that you can only take so many layers off vs. putting as many as you want on, but it's tough being freezing and the pipes don't like it.

I wonder how many will die due to this situation? Lots of lawsuits going to be launched. Very unequitable situation. That gives lawsuits some legs. There is no equity here.

Warnings being issued about no access to water as supply and pipes freeze. I may head out in a few minutes to try and find some bottled water. We're usually stocked to the gills but we're down to our last few bottles.

Don't want to be relying on boiling snow to drink if we even have power to do it.

Charged a few things in the car and debating on risking the roads tomorrow on the I-20 outta here, gotta research the gas situation though.

Highways in dfw look clean surface streets are rough. Home depot is open, a couple gas stations and that's about it.

No outages here in Oklahoma, but wife did see a post on Facebook (so who knows if true) that Oklahoma is going to start doing rolling black outs. We haven't lost power yet, but who knows. I don't live in a very big city, so not sure what the energy usage is like in my area. Lucky to have a gas fireplace we can crank up if we do lose power.

Ironic. My wife just mentioned using our gas fireplace. We don't turn it on after I almost blew the place up years ago. We use the little duraflame logs in there.

I would assume you would get the rolling blackouts, but hope you don't

Toulon I'm not sure my could blow up. It won't turn the gas to the logs until the pilot is lit. No pilot, no gas. Plus it is a push button igniter, so don't have to worry about needing electricity to light it. We have actually had it on the last couple days just to make the living room a little more comfortable.

I burned off the hairs on my right arm and part of my eyebrow many years ago. Tried lighting it. Gas built up way too much before I got it to light. Big fireball and backdraft kind of effect. Burnt me pretty good. Smell of burning hair lingered for quite awhile. Awful smell.

Made me reluctant to ever light it again. No one ever has.

I'm total electric, and have a new kerosene heater that is on standby in case of a long outage. Have never had to use it. Doubt if they even sell them in some of your areas. If you can get the round vertical type and use the pre bottled clear fuel there are virtually no fumes. I'm well insulated because of electric heat, so power needs to be off a long time before my house cools off.

meagain My house was built in '32 and even though I replaced all the wood framed windows last summer, I still don't have any insulation under the original hardwood floors and I doubt there is insulation in the walls beyond the shiplap under the drywall. The rooms with carpet are noticeably warmer however!
