Sneakylong Well yeah, it’s a tight course but not real tough. The condition makes it tough😂. It’s hard to find a tough public track and I’m NOT paying $100 either…. I really don’t care that much about spending a shit ton of money to play somewhere else anyway.

Like I’ve said, my game is boring. In play off the tee and then just play the same shot shape all the time to the middle of the green. Practice is always short game just in case. Hit every green in regulation today.. not very exciting. If I played a US Open length course with brutal rough, yeah, I’d be over par or even a 7300 yard course I’d probably be over par or just right around it. You remember Trull Brook..used to shoot under par there in high school.

Played with several scratch and plus handicap golfers at my former club (Fox Hollow). They weren’t always under par.

The odds are against shooting under par for every round. Everyone has an off day scoring. But you never do.

Again, that is an extreme anomaly.

I don’t think Typhoon keeps a handicap. If he never shoots over par at his course then he’s a plus handicap golfer there. So let’s assume he’s a scratch at ~ 7000 yards anywhere.

Under tournament conditions a scratch would be separated by 12 to 15 strokes to a PGA Tour player / Champions Tour player.

The fact is a 10 handicap is closer to a scratch golfer than a scratch golfer is to a PGA Tour Pro.

Why the Scratch and 10 Handicap are Closer.

Handicap Index:

A 10 handicap has a target score 10 shots higher than a scratch player on a normal course. However, a PGA Tour pro plays at a +5.4 to +7.0 handicap on incredibly difficult courses, creating a massive, compounding skill deficit for the scratch player.

The Environment:

A 10 handicap and a scratch golfer can play the exact same local golf course from the same tees and remain competitive.

A scratch golfer cannot comfortably play a PGA Tour-setup course; the extreme length, narrow fairways, and concrete-hard greens would cause their score to balloon by double digits.”

Sneakylong. Disagree, par can give you mini victories in the midst of your round. My BIL is about a 25 handicap and he gets really excited for his pars.

Sneakylong A bad round for me is even par. I mostly do 9 hole rounds, like I will today but I’ve had days of 3 birdies, 3 pars and 3 bogeys.

I feel like I should just lie to you and say I shot +3 to make you happy..😂

If you look at it by handicap, even though I don’t bother with one, I’m probably +4? So if i shoot even par that’s 4 shots over my handicap. I don’t think you guys are happy shooting 4 over your handicap regardless if it’s a 72 or a 92.

My GHIN index is 13.5, my COURSE HANDICAP is 8 from my tee box. I'm "supposed" to shoot 80 (par 72) if I'm right on the number. I typically shoot 81 to 85. I get grouchy when over 85, yes.

I saw the best in the world shoot over par at the Outback Pro Am. Like Nicklaus, Player and Trevino etc.. They were in there 60’s.

I was a member at the number 3 ranked semi private course in Tampa Bay for 10 years. Played with some great (even plus handicap) players even in tournaments. They all shot over par at times. None shot under par all the time.

Now I know you play at 5700 yards and probably average ~ 260 plus or so off the tee. That is a short course for you. Your tee should probably be ~ 6500 - 6800. Still the odds are you drill a couple in the woods. Or screw up around the greens etc. on occasion. As they say, shit happens. lol

sdandrea1 Same for me as I'm at 13.2 now but started the year at 11.5. I don't get grouchy shooting mid 80's but considering I've shot high 70's many times over the years I'm not "happy" lol.

Currently my problem is that I'm stubbornly still using a 55g R flex shaft in my driver at ~ 46". I can't keep it straight regularly even if I choke down to 45".....a few times each round I will hit some bombs (for me) though. Everyone says I'll figure it out but it's been months and I haven't found the key and I'm hitting too many shots OB or just in the woods.

I know….and it’s not something I think about. I just go out and play. I play the same no matter what tee boxes too. Makes the par 5’s and par 3’s more challenging. Like today the 17th plays 575. I hit driver , driver, wedge to 12 feet and made the putt for birdie. Not normally a birdie hole anyway, but….

Had to cancel our 8:14 tee time for today. Had to take a last minute cancellation Vet appointment for one of our cats.

And the 86 year old hurt his back. Still does yard work. 🙄 But was able to get a 7:37 for next Thursday though. 👍

Par4QC The first miss is usually left and then the next will likely be right. I think I have been swinging too far from the inside at times and I will hit a big block or a hook.

I am NOT a smooth swinger so longer lighter clubs generally don't agree with me. It took me a long time to get to a 45" driver with a 65g shaft. I probably went too far with the new shaft. When I get it right though I reach some places on the course that I haven't sniffed in about 20 years.

KCee Up for a driver shaft change myself. The Sim Max2 has my Paderson Velocity shaft in it and it feels great but the ball either goes nowhere of goes either left or right. I have probably 10 shafts with adapters but I might go back to the HOF Express or try the LA Golf DJ series . The Paddy is a totally different profile. Still haven’t broken out the Qi4D yet.

Thanks..... He's a stray we took in ~ 9 years ago. Named himself (Squint) as they all do. lol Has two different colored eyes and always squinted in the sun as he came up to you. Ironic that he developed eye problems. lol

Developed a cataract in his right eye. Which led to uveitis, which led to glaucoma. Shortly after went blind in that eye. Luckily an ophthalmologist was very close. Could've removed the eye, but chose not to. He's been on two different eye drops for a few years.

Long story short. His pressure in the blind eye dropped to zero. Meaning the eye is not producing fluid anymore, so no more glaucoma and we can stop the eye drops (Timolol) for that. He's happy about that! 😸

Still will get the Ketorolac drops to keep uveitis (inflammation) at bay.

Now though he's developed GI issues. Bloodwork came back with nothing last year, but hasn't improved. Waiting for the results on recent bloodwork. If you ask AI about his symptoms it's either Hyperthyroidism, IBD or Lymphoma.

If the bloodwork comes back with nothing we'll have an ultrasound done. Worst case scenario it's Lymphoma and we won't put him thru chemo etc..

Anyway, we treat our cats like you treat your dogs. They're family and we'll do all we can for them. 😸

Got out today, ended up skipping the gym and playing 18 again. Had one of my member friends with me. Shot 65. M Left a lot of putts right there, which was nice to see because up until yesterday the greens were bumpy and awful. It’s nice to see what a day of rain and no play does to the greens…. Like night and day.

For Sneaky…. I shot a 92.😂😂😂😂😂

Typhoon Yeah I think my Stiff driver shafts are the right weight for me but I feel like I am not loading them like I used to....which makes me swing harder....at least they tend to keep me in play. I haven't found an R or maybe softer S that works for me.

I really need to go for another fitting. I'm hitting the 3 wood pretty well and I almost wonder if I would do better going back to a 11-12* 44.5" driver again. I used that for years and that was the only thing the fitter didn't change with my clubs. He made all my other clubs longer, even the 3 wood is 43.5" but told me never to go over 44.5" with the driver......my wife says I never listen.
