Just got back from golf trip in western NY. Middle of nowhere staying at cabins right on a course. Bit of a dogtrack with clover in the fairways, but the tiny turtleback greens were pristine and it had some nice holes. Super low cost. Only negative was the course was crazy wet from all the rain which made it CPO every day and it made some holes really long.
20 guys playing Ryder Cup style Team Red vs Blue. In the morning you could go out and play as many holes as you wanted and then the competition started at 1pm. First day was Florida scramble. 4 man team needed 2 tee shots each while 3 man teams needed 3. Whoever hit the best shot had to sit the next shot out. Second day was 2-man team modified alternate shot. Last day was straight up match play. The Red team (my team) smoked the Blue.
I played well every day, but we lost on 18 the first day. 2nd day I played possibly better than I ever have. I hit just 1 bad drive and my short game was immaculate. My partner was a solid single digit that knew the course and I did exactly as he instructed and we won 5 & 4.
Last day I started off hot and was 4 up quickly, but then my opponent came to life and I was soon only 1 up. I got back to 3 up with 3 to play; then lost 2 holes and figured I was just going to tie, but my opponent airmailed the last hole and couldn't recover.
My opponent was a friend that organizes the trip so I was thinking a tie would be perfect, but he gagged the last hole so bad he took that off the table. I may not be invited back lol. I wasn't too sure about the trip since I knew only 6 guys, but it was fun and relaxing staying right on the course.
