The weather was nice enough for me to play today, and I had the day off work... unfortunately, I had a minor surgery five days ago and I am not allowed to play golf for two weeks.
We don't always have beautiful days in February. I was pretty sad about having to bypass this one.
How did you shoot today at Golf
Just back from playing 7 rounds over 6 days in Sarasota/Bradenton and never got under 80 once. Ranged from 83-88. The 88 on a very challenging Lakewood National Commander course. Played tees 6300-6500 all week
Had a great week off the tee and ok into the greens but for the life of me could not chip and putt on the Bermuda there. I have played Bermuda many times in Carolinas and Zona but this was different. Made 3 birdies twice and 1 birdie thrice but that was either a lucky bomb ( putted in twice from off the green) or when i knocked it within 3 feet.
In any event some good handicap maintenance . Started 2024 at 4.9 and now 9.6

40/43 today for my 1st full round at the new/old club. Our foursome got around in 3 hours, 5 minutes. Nice lunch after. 2 double bogeys, 9 pars, 7 bogeys. I actually hit a handful of solid shots with my ACER XDS 5w on the Acer 45g shaft! Nice turf makes things easier. Sunny, 67 degrees.
47/48 yesterday on the same course I shot 48/39 on about 3-4 weeks ago. There was no finding it on the back 9 this time. I drove the ball pretty well but topped a bunch of iron and hybrid shots. Three-putts after hitting the first putt too hard on fast greens was a problem, too. Topping the ball is not a typical miss, so I never figured it out. Many of the topped shots rolled a long way on the sparse winter fairways, so the score could have been worse.
Didn't play but finally hit some balls in the garage last night. A bit too cold for me even in there, but I had time. I sucked so bad. Warmed up with a wedge and then struggled to hit the center of the face with a 9i. Thought I finally found a groove, but then was wearing out the toe of my 7i and hybrid. Finally stopped swinging and just started doing drills. Hit the last dozen or so shots with 7i and hybrid pretty flush. Was hoping to hit an indoor range or sim this weekend, but we are going to Boston to visit my kid. Golf trip in a couple of weeks should be interesting.
48-47 in the senior league today. I put on a clinic on how to waste good drives. Usually I have a decent round when I'm still playing with the ball I started with, but not today. I had one little streak of 3 pars in a row (3 gir) but other than that things were pretty ugly around the greens. On one hole it took me 4 to get out of a greenside bunker. I was hitting to a down sloping green with water on the other side. I couldn't bring myself to swing hard enough.
Played Eagle Dunes in Eustis Fl today. Shot 48-43-91 with 40 (Forty!) putts. Drive r was great hit the first 11 Fws and 12 of 14 total. Could not hit a single GIR on the front nine. Greens were fast and I could not adjust.
Much better back nine, hit 6 GIR just couldn't putt. Oh well.
Typhoon There is a nice one about 30 minutes from my house. I don't go much because a few times I went the heaters were shut off or just not working in the bays that were empty. So now I've already paid and freezing more than in my garage since the wind can hit me. The Raynauds makes winter practice tough as gloves don't keep my hands warm enough. If someone could make a heated grip like the steering wheel in my car I would buy it.
Any way I used to work nearby so it was convenient, but now I hate to drive 1/2 hour there and then back just to freeze while I hit some balls. I usually only go to meet @braveheart there to try out something new and bs.
Honestly I feel like I need to do drills 3 times/week in the net and then hit balls maybe once. The drills seem to help me more than actual range work. I do like the drills where I do actually hit balls though. Hitting ball standing on my left leg is always a good one for me. Hitting balls 1-handed with a wedge is a good one too. Drills like that really work for me.
Typhoon Maybe. Last year I hit balls in the garage 3-4 times/week a few weeks before the trip and I played well. I think I went to indoor golf once before the trip? Last winter was mild though so there were a lot of days it was at least 40 out and the garage was not that cold. This year it's been colder and my garage is not heated and I doubt it has much insulation. Plus once I open the door and back the cars out I've just let all the cold air in. I do wish there was a convenient indoor place near me. I hate driving at least an hour out of my way to hit some balls.
Either way it will be fun. Even if I suck I will probably just suck the first round and then I will figure out how to steer it around to make a score. It's almost 5 days I don't need to do anything for anyone else except pull the flag or grab a beer. Heaven.
Played Palmer Legends at The Villages, first time playing a Village course. It was outstanding. Impeccable conditions. A bit pricey at $167 for the two of us but they have no problem getting it. Playing 3 times a week that would be about $500 just for golf but there's some money down here.
Anyway, shot 41-41-82 with a more manageable 32 putts as opposed to last round's 41. Realized I was regripping and closing down the face, cut that out and much better. Hit 8 GIR and one birdie. Beautiful day.
Shot 50/40 today. It's always better when the better nine is the second one, lol. Terrible start. Quadruple 8 on #2, losing 2 balls in 2 different ponds. Ball striking was great (for me) on the back 9. Seven pars (5 gir) and 2 doubles. One of the doubles was on #18, which was a bit of a disappointing finish, but it felt good to finally hit some good iron shots.

Played Harbor Hills in Lady Lake Fl. Nice course with some rare for Florida elevation changes. Nice condition for $50. Shot 83 with another bad putting day of 38 putts. Bad speed and bad line make for a long day on the greens.
11-14 fw's and 9 GIR. Anybody remember that stat that tells you what you should have shot by how many GIRs you hit? I'm betting 9 GIR should be better than 83.
Another beautiful day though. I could definitely live here.
Edit: found it
I played our back nine in 2 over today. Nice to play well for a change. 3 bogies and a bird.
