Typhoon Indeed! My biggest difference between two consecutive rounds was 20 strokes. It happened to be in a two-day tournament. I shot 99 on the first day and 79 on the second, including going one under on the final 9.

Golf is a crazy game.

rsvman2 I recently did something similar. Shot 80 on a Monday followed by 100 two days later. The second round was a more difficult course, but not that much, lol. Crazy.

Shot 89 yesterday in the senior golf league, good enough to win my flight. The course is not difficult, but faster than usual greens, windy conditions, and playing one tee box back from usual pushed scores higher overall, especially for the higher handicappers.

I somehow had the distance control dialed in on the fast greens, finishing with zero 3-putts. I couldn't make anything except short putts for most of the day, but I made a slick downhill 25 footer for birdie on a par 3 that won me a $70 skin. (Third skin in the last 3 tournaments, lol.)

I started falling apart at the end of the round, spraying 3 of my last 4 drives into penalty stroke land. I was worried at the time but in the end all it accomplished was making sure my handicap won't go down as much. 😆

Typhoon 102 and then a 73… holy shit

Welcome to my golf life. To be fair I could have gotten the 102 down to 95 or less just by switching to hybrids to chip once I realized I had the yips about 4 holes in like I did today but I was determined to stop the shanks. Well I didn't . Added 1-2 shots to every missed green. Today I wanted to score so I never took a wedge out of my bag.

garyt1957 That is impressive. A few years back I went from 97 to 81 in a 2-day tournament. One of my playing partners went from 106? to 82 and another went from 99 to 78. Honestly there was no weather or other conditions that should have caused us all to suck the first day, but we did. I can't even remember what the 4th player in the group shot because it was average lol.

No one noticed 2 of us, but my buddy that shot the 82 did it with about a 27 index. He won a bunch of net skins and I thought he was going to get lynched.

Ever hear of the 8 shot rule ? Just curious.... 🤔

I don't think so? We used to have a rule in after work league that you would pick up after 8 shots. Some of our current tournaments require you must hole out. I made an 11 on a hole once after piping a few OB. Another guy that day made a 12 and a 14 so no one noticed my 11 lol.

77 today on The Meadows. Team got 1st. A player in the group in front of us made an ace today on their 2nd hole. Our group hole-in-one self-insured pot picked up the bar tab for all 40 of us. Now we gotta pony up another $5 each to fatten the pot back up.

sdandrea1 Is the pot for the guy who made the ace, or just the drinks? Here it’s for the player, and he gets the drinks.

              Today 49-48- 97.
I kinda got off to a rough start a double, and pair of single bogeys for the 1st 3 holes. Only 1 par, and 1 triple on the front. The back wasn't much better with 3 triples, 3 pars were nice. Had a good time, my 5 wood impressed the guys I was playing with. It was just reliable, and sent the ball down range nicely, nice high ball flight off the deck. Driver was ok, it got me into a little bit of trouble on a few holes. Putter was great, mostly 2 putts, with a few 3 putts and a few 1 putts tossed in for good measure.

Walterjn Walter,!you play a short course… have you tried not using driver? Don’t know how good you are with irons or hybrids but teeing off with one of those amd leaving still a short iron to the green. Might save you more strokes than you think.

Typhoon I have done that. Probably should try that again. Tee off with my 5 wood like I did on #16. That hole was 5 wood, 5 wood, wedge 2 putt bogey. It wasn't all trouble caused by my driver, I screwed up and hit my 7 iron fat a few times. There were a few times I pulled the wrong club for the conditions and fell short.
My driver did leave me out of position a few times, yet I was able to advance the ball and get back into position fairly well. I'm thinking that even with my driver nor working really great, a few poor iron shots, 3 lost balls, that I walked off with 8 strokes over my absolute best round. I just need to play the bigger courses more often. The course yesterday was 6126 from the whites.

garyt1957 My man!! You bring the tears of happiness when you post like this. 👍👍

garyt1957 Screw that! Pay big money for the driver I'm hitting it, score be damned

                    😄

Walterjn I started out playing some nearby shorter courses using 4i off the tee, then a large 3w, then a short heavy 12* driver before using a "regular" driver. Partly to use what worked best to keep in play and then to add distance as I got older and shorter.

Monthly Saturday scramble at our club today. I subbed into a men's division team. We managed -9 gross, -14 with cap. 2 strokes out of the $. Lunch was included, though. 😏
