How did you shoot today at Golf

DonM Was it warmer than usual? Different golf ball? Just wondering why you were long so often.

Temperature was 10 above average, that wasn't it. Ball - maybe. Used the latest Kirkland Signatures, which I haven't used much. Haven't heard any reports that they were long, most people think they are below average.

I'll just chalk it up as a strange day. My iron distances have been dead on for the last few rounds.

Snuck out again for a quick 1:43 18 holes. Played the other course at the slumpbuster, played the senior tees which are really short at 5400 yards.
Shot 76 including my first ever under par nine. I hate to count it because of how short the course is, but it's still a first.

'Those' being the old(er) guys that think they just have to play further back than what they should. They might hit driver 230-250, but then take 2-3 more shots to get to green. I see them every round....EVERY round. Driver does not determine tee box usage! imo
I got to a certain age and just said F it, I'm moving up.....I've earned it. If I hit drives 230, 240, so be it.

5400 is juuust right for me.

sdandrea1. Yea, I meant to write " how short and easy the course is". It's only rated like 67/110

The MGA combo tees that I and most of us play are 5800, 67.9/121. It's slightly short based on the 5i x 36 and driver x 27 suggestions. But I like it. I get to hit several short irons per round.

Everyone here thinks the ratings of the MGA tees are too low. When I compare to other courses I've played a lot, I definitely agree.

The rating system gives a lot of priority to distance, but much of our trouble is on the approach shots. The tips are 7000, 73.6/133. They have the same difficult approach shots as we do from the MGA tees. Well, except for the par 3's. Even on those, the long hitters are using about the same clubs as I do from the shorter boxes.

garyt1957 That makes sense. In my experience, a 110 slope is pretty basic golf. Usually simple greens with simple chips when you miss. In other words, fun!

Played 5771 yards today and played like shit. One GIR. Got 14 Stableford points against a quota of 21, shot 94.

'Slope' is either overrated or underrated.(??) I play 110 courses that play harder than ones I play at 123+ that are longer in yardage from senior tees. Scores are usually similar.

Sparky Kirkland balls go nowhere.

Played out back 9 which I rarely play. I usually only have time for 9 holes between jobs and go off the front. This time of year not many day time midweek 18 holers so I got out on the back. It’s tougher than the front… tricky, hardly use driver. It’s an ugly 9. Most of the holes were added to make it an 18 hole course. It’s cut through the woods and it’s visually ugly… still stumps in the rough. Anyway… shot -2. Still not happy with my irons at that time. More ugly shots on the green but that was the only good thing about them. Went to the range afterwards with only a 9 iron. I know I keep thinking I found the problem but this time I did, it was my set up and just having one club with me was a good idea

Played a fund-raising scramble today at Virginia Beach National with three guys who aren't very good. The weather was perfect.
I played pretty well. The driver was particularly good. We went 7 under, and two of those were my solo birdies.

All in all, a great time.

That's what I'd heard as well. But yesterday, they were absurdly long off my irons.

After I posted about yesterday's scramble, I remembered that it wasn't two but three of our birdies that were my solo birdies.

Also, tee to green, over the first four holes we took my shot four out of eight times; thereafter, the team took my shot 21 times; the other three guys combined contributed 7 shots total. And yes, my shoulders are a little sore from carrying the team all the way around.

Funniest part is that this was the second tournament in a row that my team would have won the second flight if we had just been one shot worse. So we ended up tied for last place in the first flight, instead.
