Par4QC If you really want an adventure, drive east on 80 to mile marker 93, I think. Play The Bourne. It was built by a somewhat rich guy for himself and friends. It’s in an old quarry or mine or something like that. It’s no frills but interesting and weird. The first time you’ll be lost and probably cranky. There are blind shots that require advice from the guy in the clubhouse.

When it was first built it had lots of tall grasses but they’ve tamed it down. They can’t tame the weird layout though.

      at Fyre Lake there is also no directional signs as to where the next tee area is. And cart paths cross frequently.

        Par4QC That sucks. Most of the courses around here used to paint stripes on the cart path and/or at least have a 150 yard stake in the fairway. Now, in the age of gps and laser rangefinders those have disappeared. Best I can hope for at most of them are flat markers in the center of the fairway that are only visible when close by.

            johnnydoom iirc, they did have markers for 100 yds. at one side of fws.

            And the only thing that was painted was the grass in the fws😲. The first couple holes I didn't really think about it, then when I wiped a ball off and my towel was green afterwards, I checked on the next hole and my iron was stained green. Not a grass stain either.
            Weird place, it was.

              That looks like a Greenskeeper's Revenge" tournament. There's no reason (and it's against the rules) for a hole to be on a slope like that . I can see flat parts of that green where you could put a legitimate hole. Supposed to be a flat spot (3' I believe) around the hole.

                  Snuck out yesterday, again forgoing sleep for golf. Played two balls for 11 holes. Ended up 38-39-77. 3 birdies, lots of bogies. Switched from an A flex shaft to a tip stiff R in my driver and results were surprisingly good. Didn't play as well as my score suggests. Almost 80 in Michigan in October is a plus.
                  My handicap, which had climbed to 13 is back down to 10.7. (No I didn't enter this round). I should just play this course the rest of the year and I might be able to get to single digits, take a screen shot and then start playing other courses.

                  garyt1957 Not sure any green had a 3' flat area anywhere. They were like billiard tables also.
                  I also had several putts that broke opposite of what I saw, and uphill/away, instead of down. Think I only had one 1 putt.

                      Typhoon Wound up subbing in a different group. Paired with one of the other brothers (this family is half the league) that can handle a few drinks and is fairly quiet. Another guy I know who's decent, but just had hunk of his colon removed and wasn't moving too well and another guy I didn't know.

                      First 3 holes were all me and then they started playing. We had the wrong approach to start. They told me to hit last since I was the A player, but after the first few holes I said I'd hit first to take the pressure off of them. It's sad when I'm the A player by a huge margin, but we were several under par and finished mid-pack. Steak dinner was very good.

                          My good play came to an end yesterday. Shot 41-45 @ Power Ranch Golf Club. Started out with 3 straight pars and it went downhill from there. My short game was awful. Had a case of the yi%$ with chipping and my putter took the day off. 36 putts compared to the 30 or under I have been having. Teed off at 12pm with the temps reaching around 108°. The course appeared to be in good shape. It was accept for the rock hard greens. I hit a couple of towering shots that landed next to the flag, on to bound 10-15 yards off the green. I probably won't tee it up for a few weeks until the courses open up after the winter grass overseed.

                          KCee I always go last so they have no pressure knowing they have people behind them to hit. Worst case with nothing in the fairway I could 5 iron one out there 200.

                              Typhoon I thought they would have less pressure, but 2 of them were way worse going first. The first hole is 310 yards straight out and the widest hole and they were all in the trees. I just bunted driver out there. 2nd hole is a narrow dogleg and I had to do the same. 3rd hole the half a colon guy did keep it out of the trees. The other 2 guys kept aiming way left and missing left....which I did on the 4th hole, but they picked me up there.

                              They were fun to play with and actually hitting some decent shots after the first few holes. I actually got to go for #7 par 5 in 2 which I never do. Hit a good drive and then I pummeled the new Ai Smoke 5w just short of the front edge. I usually lay up with 5h or an iron as I suck with 3w off the deck, but the 5w is a weapon. Both Half a Colon guy and I lipped out eagle putts 😡

                                  Yesterday was one of those days......

                                  #12 - I had 115 to pin. Downwind 1 club. Didn't want to be short, so I hit my PW (115 club). Hit it well, right at the pin, 5 yards short, falls back into bunker.

                                  #13 - Par 3 going right back the other direction. 120 yards, into the 1 club wind. Pull out my 9 iron (125 club). Hit it well, right at the pin. Right over the pin. Right over the bunker behind the green. Ended up 15 yards past pin.

                                  I hit 7 greens. Of the 11 missed - 9 were on line with the green and had the wrong distance. Most were long.

                                    Sparky Was it warmer than usual? Different golf ball? Just wondering why you were long so often.

                                    Our typical summer wind is 10-ish, and in the other three seasons it's 15-20. I do not enjoy trying to pick the club for the downwind shot. And I hate going home thinking about the shots that were well-struck but I picked the wrong club. Sometimes it's obvious that the golf gods were having fun.

                                        I shot 40-36-76 at Eagles Landing GC in Oregon, Ohio this morning. A little frosty and cool when we started, but got up to 65* by the time we finished......full sun and little wind....just about perfect! Chipped and putted poorly on the front 9, but improved on the back.....9 GIR, 1 birdie, 32 putts.

                                        DonM Was it warmer than usual? Different golf ball? Just wondering why you were long so often.

                                        Temperature was 10 above average, that wasn't it. Ball - maybe. Used the latest Kirkland Signatures, which I haven't used much. Haven't heard any reports that they were long, most people think they are below average.

                                        I'll just chalk it up as a strange day. My iron distances have been dead on for the last few rounds.

                                            Snuck out again for a quick 1:43 18 holes. Played the other course at the slumpbuster, played the senior tees which are really short at 5400 yards.
                                            Shot 76 including my first ever under par nine. I hate to count it because of how short the course is, but it's still a first.
