Today was GEA/FGI retro bag day...featuring lots of things that had been filling up my golf cabinet. This weekend I pulled out the heads and shaft boxes and got busy. Here was the lineup....

Drivers: Geek Fail Safe 3 on Kinetixx A flex, Geek DCT on Xcaliber Avalon 5 S.
Fairways: My gamers are still the Tommy Armour Atomic 3w and 5w.
Irons: Golfsmith P2 on Wishon Interflexx (3i-8i), and Xcaliber Pro95R (9i-pw).
Wedges: Inazone Chrome Mist on TT Score.

THE RESULT......my highest score in 5 1/2 years!

The P2 irons were fine, no issues there, but they were a good 15 yards shorter than modern clubs. Still, they were pretty solid all day.
The wedges did nothing special, and a few things less than special. In fact, after yet another chunked chip, I decided the 60* needed to be 19" long.
The C-Ray was good, except it seemed like when I just walked up to tap in a 3 footer, the C-Ray would sit on the ground cocked left and I would miss left by a ton. Happened a few times on the front, so I switched back to the gamer after 9.
The driver(s) absolutely killed me today. FS3 on the front 9. DCT on the back 9. They were just all over the place. And I played with a friend that I play with 6 or so times per year. We have always been comparable in distance, but today when I did hit one straight, I was still a good 20-30 yards behind him.

The retro bag experiment is concluded after 1 round.

Sparky The laughter you might have just heard was coming from farther South of me. Maybe even a bit East.
    Was. Not. Me.🤣

I do this in Aug/Sept most years. Don't get really terrible results & I don't care if I do when I take them out. 'Silly season', more or less.
Don't have any Geek left, but plenty of SMT. And a ton of Snake Eyes hybrids. My clone irons are 20 years old, so they will have to do, with the 20 yr. old shafts......Precision.

    40-49=89
The driver went to the bench after 2 holes. Enter the three wood and had some surprisingly long drives.
Front nine was a Seve day. Miss a shot or two on a hole to be followed by a great chip, pitch or short iron and or drain a putt.
Example: 4th shot on par 5 ...35 yard bunker shot with ball below my feet. Hit to 8 ft and made putt for par.
Made 5 putts from 8-15 feet. Never had a 9 like this one.
Ran out of steam and magic on the last six holes with 5 doubles and 1 par.
    Driver sucks..........getting mental now.

      potbunker

Turns out my 40 + 49 = 89 yesterday was good enough to win my division / 3rd flight ..........net of handicap with a 74.

Surprisingly there were no net scores in the 60's in the entire field, which is what you usually need to win. Guess the heat and course took it's toll. Pulled a Rory and didn't stick around for the posting of results thinking if I'm not in the 60's / net.....no chance.

Overall I finished 14th out of 108 players.
Is that better than two tournaments ago where I finished #106 out of 108? 😭🤬 thankfully if you play all 9 tournaments your worst tournament gets dropped. 😍

I shot 40-42-82 at Bedford Hills GC in Temperance, Mich. today. Played OK, except my lower back got tighter and tighter on the back nine, and I limped home with double-par-double. Disappointing finish......6 GIR, 31 putts, 0 birdies.....

Shot 43 in league last night and we lost again. I stupidly piped tee shots OB on 14 and 15; just double crossed with big pull draws instead of my usual fade. I did finish with a tap-in birdie and a skin so that was nice.

I played today. The first 18 hole round in a month. The remnants of Beryl passed over us yesterday, but the course was in decent shape.

I started out Bogey, Birdie, Par. I should have quit after that. The front nine was decent, but I completely fell apart on the back. I just couldn't maintain my focus. That's all I'm going to say about that. I've put it behind me.

Tee game = Piped a couple great ones into position but overall underwhelming
      Approach game = Above average
      Short game = meltdown
      Putting = sucked

Managed to shoot the end of round outdoor temperature…94

40 at Tarpon Springs. Only got 9 in because of the weather. Gave us a raincheck for the full 18 for next time. 👍

42/37 in a quota tournament. 2 short of my quota, and no skins. The greens were punched. Anyway it was a strange round with 11 greens but a lot of poor iron swings too. I was shocked to break 80 and shocked when I added up 11 GIR. It felt more like 89, not 79.

Played the slumpbuster (She ain't pretty but she's always available) today. 39-42-81. Only 29 putts. I don't understand why I putt so well here. Always 4-7 less putts than usual. The greens aren't fast or terribly undulating but they're not totally flat either. Whatever it is I wish I could pack it up and take it with me to other courses.

Another day on punched greens. I had several good looks at birdie and only made one. I can’t blame the greens for all of it, though. Some I just read wrong.

        44/38 with 9 greens and 35 putts.
Our whole team played bad. We finished DFL.

I airmailed the first two greens with 9i and PW from the fairway. I have to think the Wilson Triad that I played today goes farther off irons than the Maxfli Tours. From then on I took one less club and that worked out. Hmmm. Also it flies real high.

Shot 85 yesterday in Senior club championship. Short game was better thank you @Typhoon for the tip. Unfortunately piped a few OB again and 3 putted a few times. Still I was tied 5th out of about 50. Hitting some beautiful drives and irons but just need consistency.

Can't finish the tournament today as I have a memorial service to attend, but would probably have to go really low for even 3rd. A 10 index shot even par and is leading. My buddy shot 84 as a 21 and hopefully he can go low again

KCee Nice to hear there were some bright spots. Sorry for you loss today with the memorial service. How’s the heat down your way? Nick played in Hamden last night… 2.5 hour ride

Typhoon it's low 90s and super humid. Feels hotter. My baseball cap weighs about 5 lbs after only a few holes.

I should have stayed home and played with myself today. 51/43 @ San Marcos. I whacked my left thumb last night with a serrated grill spatula trying to separate 2 frozen burger patties. Had a little swelling that hurt pretty bad on my downswing. It got better on the back nine as did my score. Had the f'ing y!p$ again with my chipping. I need to hit the practice facility and work that shit out of my system. Happened 5 times today.🤬

Golf next Sunday in SoCal with @Sparky playing Hidden Valley in Corona,CA. One of my favorite SoCal courses.
