How did you shoot today at Golf
42/44 today. I did something I've never done before. GIR on the first 7 holes. But I 3-putted 3 of them and missed two 7-8 foot birdie putts. That 42 on the front 9 was a travesty. Got four more gir on the back nine but 19 putts. Mostly I was misreading greens badly on longer putts, including underestimating the slopes. So uphill I often came up way short and downhill too long. It felt good tee to green, though.

Played nine yesterday afternoon for my first golf in about a month.
I couldn't decide if I was really good or pretty bad. I hit some really good drives. I got to about three feet on the par 3 sixth hole. My chip on 8 stopped one inch shy of the hole.
On the other hand, I pulled a short iron ten yards left of the green on 2, chunked a 9-iron on 9, etc.
Highlights: Went long of the opening par 5 in two shots, with driver, 5-wood. Havent reached that green in two for about 6 years. Tee shot on 6 looked like it was going to go in but ended up three feet behind the hole.
Lowlights: Missed the birdie putt on 6. It was a down-hiller with more break than I thought. I aimed at the right edge and tried to give it speed to not run it too far by, and it lipped out low. To make it I would have to have aimed outside the hole, or hit it more firmly and risked going six to ten feet by the hole. Still a bad miss, though.
Overall, fair. Don't really have a score. Played two balls off the tee fairly frequently. For the first time in forever, there was hardly anybody at the course.
I shot 40-43-83 at Giant Oak Golf Club in Temperence, MI today. Played well on the front, and then just ran out of gas on the bank where I bogied five straight holes before even making a par. 5 GIR's, 33 putts....just not very good
in any part of the game on the back 9.....
Played yesterday at one of the tougher courses in SoCal. Driver wasn't great, seem to be getting my fade swing back that I thought I had corrected. Irons remain solid. +3 on the front. Started to string pars on the back, and then made a 30 foot birdie on 14.
That brings me to the "Quandary" - the nasty finishing stretch of 4 holes.
#15 is a 160 yard par 3, into a 1-2 club wind. Two tier green, skinny, bunkers on both sides. Hit a solid 6i that just catches left edge, 25 feet from hole. Drain the birdie.
#16 is one of the hardest holes in SoCal. 442 yards, sharp downhill, into the same wind. If you hit a hard drive down the left edge, you can get some roll. Miss the fairway and you can't go for the green in 2. I hit a decent drive, but a bit high and down the right side. There's a big mound there that kills any roll, but does put you back into the FW. I am left with 217 to the pin. A pond borders the front and right sides of the green. Bunker over the green. A go with a 3 wood, and hit it perfect, 25 feet from hole. Nearly made the birdie, but the par feels like birdie.
#17 is a 380 par 4 with danger all down the left side, and a green 40 feet above the fairway. After backing away from my tee shot 6 times (the twosome I was paired with would not stop talking all day), hit a good 3w, followed by a good 8i. Good run at birdie, tap in par.
#18 is a 370 par 4, back into the wind. Hit a decent drive, leaves me 140 in. Again, pond covers the entire front side of green, bunkers long. My usual play here is to target the back of the green and take par. But I was sitting at +1. Had to go for the pin, which of course was 10 feet off the pond. Hit a solid 7i (155 club) right at the stick, lands on front fringe, bounces up, and then back down the slope into the water. Double. Rats.
Shot 43 in league last night and won. Hit the ball well, but my short game was pretty bad after not playing for 2 weeks. I had 2 doubles that were just bad chipping and putting. I also doubled on our #7 par 5 after losing the ball on what looked to be a tee shot that should have just been in the left rough. I was nowhere near the trees, but I was hitting the driver further than usual and maybe I reached the 2nd hill and bounced off farther left. I had closed my opponent out on #6 so it didn't really matter and probably helped manage my currently high handicap lol. My partner lost, but we took 2/3 points so I think we are still in 1st or at least close to the lead. Somehow my opponents keep rolling over for me.
DonM That is the dirty little secret of tournament play. Opponents are golfers too.
Very true. Really I've only had 1 opponent play very poorly against me. I have been starting the front 9 really well and getting up early on my opponents, who are playing average bogey golf, and then coasting in for a win. Just wish I could keep the good round going, but I can't seem to shake those doubles and triples.
Shot 91 in the senior league. Two birdies but carded a 9 on a par 4. One of the birdies got me a $52 skin, which was nice since I finished 2 strokes out of the money.
I had 3 very unnecessary strokes. First, I one-handed a 6 inch tap in putt that somehow lipped out. Second, I had a 2-stroke penalty for hitting another guy's ball by mistake. We were playing the same exact ball (although mine was marked). He hit his second shot from well left of the fairway, and I didn't see that it ended up near mine in the right rough near the green. When I came upon his ball mine wasn't visible sitting down in the rough about 15 feet away. I glanced at his and assumed it was mine. Dumb mistake.
I played today. The only reason I kept it under 90 was that we saw lightning on the 15th hole and quit. That's all I'm going say since I intend to forget this round.
