Typhoon Letters we different distances based on where you ball landed on the green.

Similar for me, except numbers instead of letters, and, there were small mounds and slopes on the floor similar to mini putt. It was awesome at the time.
This happened in Quebec on a trip there (it was not here in Ontario) so when I came back and told everyone about it, they thought I was on drugs or something. LOL

Typhoon I prefer it when you can set distances for putts, like inside 3 feet is a one putt, inside 10 feet is a two putt, whatever and then just don't putt at all.

Typhoon Around here in MA a lot of winters we get those 60 degree days and people run to the golf course, wait 3 hours to get out to play once and then not again for another 6 weeks.

Yea, I did that in the past. Went out NY's Day one year , it was 60ish. No tee times, 20 groups lined up to tee off, went back and got a refund.

Sparky Made every putt 6 foot or under

This is a rare thing for me, lol.

48/46 in the senior golf league. I wouldn't usually be very happy with that, but I went 2 over par over the last 6 holes to sneak into the money (6th place in my flight). I rescued myself from feeling totally defeated after a horrendous stretch of 7 holes at 16 over par. I also won a $62 skin with my lone birdie.

84 at Timber Greens. No birdies. Went out third at 7:52 because of daylight savings. Finished at 11:38. Only two of us this morning. Cool morning with a low dew point, something we will miss in the not too distant future.

    78.
Kept track of some things that I normally don't bother with, as I find some things meaningless in the 'playing' game. I like the 'scoring' game better.

Another super windy day, around 20-30 mph. Trying out a couple 3 new toys, 7 wd + 2 drivers(1 for Jake).
7wd will be the club I was looking for; maybe too much. Into the wind I was getting what I want, so maybe in less wind it will be too long.....if there is such a thing.
Had to try Jake's new Qi10, but might have made a mistake of using my own A flex shaft, instead of the S that came in it. My DARKspeed LS did not disappoint, even with the shaft I ordered.....R flex LinQ Red 50. Every hit was dead center. Too bad my aim/overswinging put in some off-liners. 1st cut mainly, so, was fine with me.

The only strange thing that happened was on #13. Hitting into the green, I lost the ball at impact and never did see it land anywhere. PO'd, so threw down another ball, and damn if I didn't do the exact same thing...never seen it at all. Drove on up towards the green while looking everywhere. Looked at the green and there were 2 balls sitting there, both about 5' from the cup.๐Ÿ˜œ

Also tried out the newest TaylorMade ball....the Speedsoft.
May well be the softest ball I've ever hit, and that is not a good thing at all๐Ÿคฎ. imo, it is shit. Might be fine for old women and small children.

47-39 for 86. 5 doubles, 2 birdies, 2 shanks. Didnโ€™t hit the ball badly, really. I dunno. Itโ€™s a damn tough golf course. One club too much, in the water. One club not enough, in the bunker. And so on.

      Looks like we won money.

What an impressive round! I can't imagine 27 putts. Did you make a lot of long ones or were you chipping them close?

MidwayJ Chips were close. 50+ yrs. ago, it was what I worked on, along with putting, because I sucked with any woods/long irons. Am thankful for the inventor of the hybrids, for sure!!

5 GIRs is kind of a 'lot' for my game. I probably could have got the total putts down some๐Ÿ˜„. That's why I say the 'playing' game stats are not so important (to me anyway) as they can also be deceiving.

Are 15 GIRs better than 5, if both scores are 78? Someone had a LOT of putts๐Ÿ˜‰. And complained about such.

Depends on what you're used to. What might be a lot of putts to you likely is not to me, lol.

MidwayJ And we would not have any back/forth on this forum if we had 15 GIRs and 27 putts.
We might be on TV and be too busy for forums.๐Ÿ˜„

I did have a lot more putts in a round a week ago, but also may have hit my GIR record. The game is fun, but it's not fair.

I really miss playing a course where you could miss the greens in safe places. We don't have that. Let me think out loud here. Number 5, 8, 11, 12, ... that's it. 4 greens that you can play to include reliable misses in safe places in front of the green. And honestly, those greens aren't that hard to hit and the misses aren't too bad, so there is no reason to play safe on them. The other 14 greens, you either hit the green or fringe, or you are probably facing a fairly difficult short game shot. Not always of course. Some of the misses end up okay. But most of the time the misses are down in a deep hole, or a bunker, and short sided to boot. Then throw in the bermuda grass. It's like I walked 4 miles to school, uphill both ways.

Our A player yesterday shot 75. I was trying to think back to his round. It felt like he was on a lot of greens. I know he hit all the par 3s, and they are hard for most of us to hit. It was windy as usual. He used a driver on 1 or 2 of them and a 3 wood on the others. I barely missed one with a 9 wood, hit one with the 9 wood (birdie!), and hit one with the 7 wood. The other one was 6H, not enough club, into the bunker. Should have used the 9 wood there but chickened out because of the winds. All in all that was a good showing on the par 3's for me, but he was better.

He is a master with his 3 wood. He uses it for like a 4 club range of distances. And he's great with his driver that way too.

I just don't remember him being in any bad spots yesterday. Maybe he was. Had to be. His short game is good.
His lag putting is much better than mine. His birdie length putting, no better than me.

So there you go. I need to hit more greens (irons!!!), somehow not get in as much trouble, get better with short game, and especially lag putting.

DonM So there you go. I need to hit more greens (irons!!!), somehow not get in as much trouble, get better with short game, and especially lag putting.

Yeah, that's basically the recipe for good golf. Drive it in the fairway (stay out of penalty areas), hit your approach shot on the green or close to the green, so you can get up and down and don't 3 putt. Easier said than done as we know. lol

                  Par4QC 15 GIRs and 27 putts

My magic number was always 14 GIR and 29 putts. That was my goal.

Donโ€™t mention the TV thing to Landonโ€ฆ he gets pissed at me๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Typhoon Yeah, not an easy thing to put those 2 stats together. Typically we get 1 or the other. It might sometimes look like I may be the worlds best putter. But, I don't get caught up in those type stats as I know why/how I only had X amount of putts. I/anyone might go under Par if we hit every green, but we'd have to be making some hellish putts, no doubt.
And none of us are going to make money from any of it. But we can post about it, and discuss it.
Who gets best 'bragging' rights......21 putts or 15 GIRs???? ๐Ÿ˜…

I shot 39-42-81 at White Pines GC in Swanton, Ohio today. Played pretty well on the front, but chipping and putting deserted me on the back. Hit 7 greens; 35 putts; no birdies or doubles. The best thing about my round IMO was that I walked the whole way, and seemed to have plenty left in the tank on 18. Ever since getting home from FLA (where I had Covid) I've been tired on the second nine.....even rode a cart last week. Glad to be able to make it
                      on foot this time!!

Par4QC Who gets best 'bragging' rights......21 putts or 15 GIRs????

This would be a good topic actually! I vote for 15 GIR. If you have the skill to hit that many greens, then you are a good golfer. 21 putts... if that guy that hit 15 GIR's had an off day, he could do 21 putts and still be around par.
