I played today. Probably my last round of the year. Probably my worst round of the year. I kept hitting everything thin or off the toe. Throw in more three putts than I'll have in 3 rounds and it made for a disappointing day. I think my head just wasn't in it today.
Weather was decent for late December. Around 58* by the time we finished. We did get around in under 4 hours. AFAIK, this is the only course in the area that lets you off the cart path in the winter.
CPO on a muddy track today. The kind where you hit a short iron and it splats all over you. 40-40. Had a 7 or 8 footer on 18 for 79, and I hit it right where I wanted it but over-read the break. 28 putts and only 4 GIR. No 3 putts for the third straight round. That might be a record. No birdies but no doubles either.
Irons were sucky but putting and green side pitches and lobs were great. According to the GIR formula my predicted score was 87. I've never beaten that formula by this much. I'd love to see what would happen if I could learn to hit irons.
I think we won $4 per person.
Nice weather here in SE Virginia. I had to work in the morning so I only had time for nine holes.
Got paired with three guys who play together a lot. They were playing bingo-bango-bongo for a hundred bucks a point.
Temp was in the mid-50s with just a little breeze, so it was actually pretty nice. I hit a lot of good shots. Putting was harsh. I had four putts that lipped out, two of them were for birdies. On the fourth hole my tee shot looked like it might land in the hole but it actually landed about a yard short of the green and bit hard.
I just counted and I think I shot 41 with four lip-outs. The Srixon irons are a lot better than I am, lol.
Got out for another nine at the local muni. Rained off and on all day yesterday so it was wet, muddy, and cart-path only. Also cool and breezy. Tough day for scoring. I played lift, clean, and place. There wasn't more than one tee box that was actually playable; they were almost all casual water. I found the nearest safe place to tee up my ball, sometimes ahead, sometimes behind, but mostly to the sides of the markers.
I hit the ball pretty well. Couldn't make a putt to save my life. I had five pars and four bogeys including three 3-putt bogeys. A couple of up and downs from off the greens almost neutralized those.
I had two really makeable birdie putts but missed them both.
Overall, though, it was a good time and during the course of the round I had several very good iron shots that were buttery smooth and the kind of shot that makes a person keep want to keep playing this stupid game. 
As a side note, that old Adams driver that I bought from Steve has now become the go-to off the tee.
I got to play 18 today. Went out with a buddy, we got paired up with a couple from Colorado. They were great to play with. My buddy has been playing longer than I have. He and I decided to play the blue tees today. The blues play 6480 according to the scorecard. I was fairly consistently the longest off the tee today. That was the best thing I had going for me today.
I scored 50-54-104 today. I had 3 triple bogeys, and 2 quads... my driver was working until hole 15, I sliced the crap out of it and almost hit the clubhouse. Retee, and slice it into the trees on the right, got a bounce out and back toward me. Hit my 5 wood and put it up by the green. Ball went into the pond, so there's more penalties... that was my 2nd quad, and 3rd 3 putt...
I had a great time!
FauxAmish I started just over 2 years ago. I have broken 100, and 90. I am just not consistent enough to do either on a regular basis. I do my best to laugh at my bad shots, so I get to laugh quite a bit! The best thing I had going for me was my driver yesterday, so I celebrated that. The little things, right? Good company, good driver distance, and decent putting.
Played in a scramble with Son, SIL, and grandson. Holes 1-9 were "shamble" format, holes 10-18 were scramble. We grossed 66, netted 55.25. 1st place was net 55.15. Family golf is the best.

As long as I synch up my swing, it goes straight. If I try to hit it too hard, it flares right. But it never goes left, so it takes one side of the course out of play and allows me to swing away without fear if there is a hazard on the left.
The other thing is that it generally goes farther than my TM driver. So, for now at least, it is in the driver's seat. I am only hesitant on holes with trouble on the right; in that case I hit 5-wood.
DonM I know that the odds are against me ever breaking 80, let alone 70. So I play for MY enjoyment, if I break 90 again I think I'll be happy. Will I keep hoping to break 80? Of course, I can keep striving to do that. As long as I am enjoying myself, and playing golf with good company, it really doesn't matter what score I card.
Today i went around my little course 3x I think...
35-39-40. The 1st round was going very well until I punched my 5 wood OB on #6, 2nd tee shot put me just short of the green after clipping a tree. I had some good company. A married couple, Joanie works in the clubhouse her husband, Joe, is retired, and an older gentleman from Hollywood, California area. We did play from the forward tees.. l did have 1 birdie.
2nd round I hit one of my best drives on #6. About 250 yards from tee to center of the green, my drive was just past pin high, and 5 yards off the green to the right. I made par. It was Joe, Andrew (he also does some part time work at the course), and Kyle who works at a machine shop.
3rd round, it was just Joe and myself, last round of the day. I chipped in on #2 for birdie.
I did give away a few balls, and some tees i got from Kelly @LogicalOne . I also let one of the guys ahead of us, he liked it and said he'd go take a look. Hopefully he buys one, sorry Kelly!!

Aye laddie, but it is so much more fun with lower scores. 'Fun' can be attained even when playing alone. And the lower scores can be attained by.....PRACTICE! And you do not have to go to the course to practice.
Tip #1......lower scores never come from off the tee nor fws.
