Rounds just seem to get weirder and weirderer.
Hole #1 is a long par 4, dogleg left around a lake. Expecting my usual fade, I aim to the edge of the lake. I crush the drive, no fade, and pulled way left. Luckily it clears the lake and makes the fairway. A nice 8 iron to 20 feet. And the fun begins. Buried elephant on the green between me and the hole. I hit a good putt just over the elephant, which races 15 feet by the hole. Next putt has a chance....catches the high side and lips out, should have a 2 foot tap in, but the hole is on a slope...and there she goes.....20 feet down the slope. It's a 4 putt double on one.
My ball striking is very consistent. I probably lose 1 ball total for every 3 rounds. But today, after I should have lost one on #1 drive but didn't, I continue to hit the no fade dead pull lefts - and lose 4 balls in the next 4 holes. Of course, I make every putt in sight after the 4-putt. And the front nine ends with a +10 (46) with 13 putts.
Back nine, I hit 7/7 fairways, 8 greens & 1 fringe, and shoot -2. And I had two other birdie putts going dead center that hit the pin and stay out. So, 46-34 for an even 80.
