Finally got out for nine holes after work yesterday. Birdied the first hole and parred the second, but then I hit the ball way left off an extreme sidehill lie into the water on three, ended up with double.
Hole 4 is a short par three. Hut my tee shot to about 12 feet, below the hole, uphill putt breaking left. Really wanted the birdie after the double, so I blasted it through the break, leaving a difficult 4-5 foot downhill slider, which lipped out. Three-putt bogey after a good tee shot.
I had another three-putt bogey on seven after a solid tee shot and a good approach. Took one too much club on the approach but the hit it well, about 30 feet past the hole. Misread the first putt and lipped but the par.
First time I ever remember having two 3-putt bogeys in a 9-hole round. Putting has always been my strong suit. Sometimes I go three rounds between three-putts. So I was a little shocked.
Hit a good approach on 9 and missed the bookend birdie by less than an inch.
In the end, I hit five greens in regulation and missed a sixth by about two feet. Had one water penalty stroke and two 3-putt bogeys and shot 40. Could have been worse.
