I organized my 50th year class reunion's golf outing yesterday. 14 players. All old and many need coddled. 4 player drops/adds in the 36 hours before the start that caused bedlam for me and the pro with the tee times/assigned groups. Found out one dude hadn't played golf in about 20 years but he's "been to the range 6 times to prepare for this event" The course has hosted US Open qualifying and is hosting US Amateur qualifying next month so the rough is being allowed to thicken and grow. A tough test for all regardless of tees chosen. /rant
So, I personally start off 8 over par after 5! We make the turn where the 20-30 mph wind wasn't going to be so penal, brush off the little demons along for the ride on my shoulder, and I finish the final 13 holes in 4 over par for a smooth 84. I putted decent, made some par saving putts and burned the cup on 3 good birdie looks. Starting to feel pretty good about my game again.
So, the next time we have a reunion, there will be no organized golf. The Good Lord willing, my foursome will be the same group as we always have, played together with yesterday and had a blast , For the others, I'll provide the number to the area pro shops and they can make their own */+&%@# tee times and find somebody to play with. But, on a positive note, I bet some of the guys have really nice yards because they need some kind of hobby when they aren't bitching an moaning. /rant 😊
