Wacky day on the links this morning. The theme for the day was missing 3-4 footers. I missed either 6 or 7 of them.
Awful start. +7 on the front nine with two doubles. #10 was the same story, good drive, then hack my way to another bogey. After 10 holes I am already on track for 80 if I par out.
#11 I stick a wedge to 3 feet and actually make the birdie. #12 is the lone reachable par 5 for me, but it takes a good drive (check) and then a nuked 3 wood (and my Tommy Armour Atomic 3w obliged today) on the green pin high. Made the 25 footer for eagle. #13 out of a greenside bunker to 1 foot - par. #14 lip out birdie.
#15 just on the fringe. Chip to 4 foot, miss the putt of course. #16 I am greenside in regulation, but a nasty chip left. I decided to try to roll a hybrid for 25 feet in the fringe, and hope that when the speed dies it takes a 90 degree right turn down a mound to the hole. My hybrid shot does exactly that, and hits the pin. I miss the 4 foot par.
#17 bad drive, bad iron, leaves me a nasty chip straight up a hill. Can't see the green. I hit the chip, bend down to pick up my putter, and my partners yell that it went in. Birdie. #18, hit a 3 hybrid to 15 foot, make the birdie.
Strange day. Best news was, first round in 3 months with no back muscle pain.
