mikeintopeka Hey Sneaky, you always seem to be playing matches (lost, tied, won). Does your group play 6 hole matches and then then next six holes you are playing against another in your foursome, etc.? Do you play with full handicaps? Is each match played for "X" amount of shekels? Is there usually only four of you that play this format or how are pairings made if you have 2 or more groups. The reason I ask is because I really enjoy match play and this format sounds like fun and something to try in my Monday morning group.
Yes, we play 6,6,6 match / hole play. Long and short drive on the first hole play as a team in the first match. Then we throw a tee in the air for the second 6 holes.
We have a regular foursome. We're all refugees from our former home course's senior men's association group. That group disbanded because of people dying etc.. 😔
One guy is 81 and another is 74. I'm 66 and the other guy is 66. We don't keep handicaps anymore since we left our former home course. But the two older guys are similar levels and the other 66 year old and me are similar levels.
We give two strokes (hardest handicap holes) per each 6 holes to the two older guys. We play for $2.00 each 6 holes. We also do 4 greenies for $1.00 each. We keep it light and have a blast.
We have a couple of fill in guys. One guy filled in yesterday. He's about my level (~ 10 capper). It's a fun format. And if we finish the matches early we play a match for the remaining holes, which I call garbage time.
In garbage time sometimes we play a team game and sometimes an individual game where two tie all tie. Then we always have lunch somewhere after.
We all get a discount card (Paradise Golf) and travel around the area and play different courses. We all get along great and it's a lot of fun.
