Subsonic I thought so too, but I've been using the AeroPress for almost a month now and really like it. Coffee tastes better than K cups (which we still use at home) and I can have it hotter and stronger than the Keurig which I like. Tempted to start grinding my own beans.

If I remember, America's Test Kitchen said that the Moccamaster had the best temperature control of any of the coffee makers they tried. One buddy bought one and returned it because he didn't like the number of parts, but another buddy loves his. It is on the smaller side (I want to say 8 cup), but does make good Joe.

We have a Nespresso that we have had for years and rarely use that I have been thinking of getting rid of.

Our daily maker is a standard Mr Coffee that we found at Target for about $40 (stainless steel accents).
I do have an Aeropress at work that I got, but it just makes too small a cup and I would need to use and clean it 2x for a "normal size" cup.

Is there any difference between the brewing methods of drip brewers? Or we just talking features? Bought my parents a programmable Mr. Coffee, forget the model, but it was under $50 and it's been going strong for 5+ years now.

I use an espresso machine. It's the cheapest one I could buy with a pump and it works well enough to suit my needs for the morning cappuccino and occasional espresso shot. Used to have one with a boiler, what a p.o.s. that was.....didn't realize it until I got the new machine and saw the head of crema on top. Yum.

Also use an aeropress from time to time if I get some coffee as a present or am wanting to try something out. It makes a good cup of coffee ... Easy to travel with as well.

ode I went and got a cheap espresso machine a couple of years ago when I got tired of the Keurig stuff that my wife somehow loves. Love drinking lattes in the morning. Haven’t used a drip machine in years, but the last one we had was a standard Mr. Coffee and it worked well. My wife was brainwashed by her friends into getting a Keurig, and I guess it works for her.

Are you using the pressurized baskets? My Gaggia had a boiler, never found s thermal block machine to be with a darn.

While I really want something with an E61 group head, it is just to much money.

My big break through in enjoying expresso was roasting my own beans, and using a bottomless portafilter to dusk in my grind and tamp. I found I liked a lighter roast, and the Ethiopian or Kenyan beans much more than South America

wishbone had to read up to answer. Yes pressurized, at least it appears to be. I looked up the bottomless portafilter....out of curiosity .... Is there a way to go back and forth on the same machine?

Yes, although using a non-pressurized basket is a lot less forgiving on grind. If you are grinding fresh beans with a decent grinder, it is worth experimenting. If you are using pre-ground or old beans (grocery store), I wouldn't bother with the effort.

Advantages is when you do get it right, the expresso is amazing.

wishbone that's what I thought I was reading. I do have a burr grinder, and it like my machine is the cheapest of the ones I could.find and it serves it's purpose. I also have a small grinder that operates by hand that gives off a very consistent grind. So when I get good beans, I use it (as the the burr grinder is full). My all time favorite:

I prefer it to a traditional espresso roast, which can be a bit to overpowering for my taste buds.

I need to roast some more coffee this weekend. I've been burning through some Starbucks my daughter gave me, she works there while going to college. Been using it in a French press, tried an espresso with it today. Ugh. Bad choice

Seeing as how I am dog/ house sitting, I'm currently drinking some $4.00 a container instant coffee. My friend doesn't drink coffee, so no coffee maker here and I'm refusing to go buy coffee for $2.00 a cup.

Amen! How are you enjoying roasting? Any regional preferences? I have found I definitely prefer the Kenyans and Ethiopian's for expresso, not as picky on drip. Found I like lighter roasts than I expected as well. II have a Fresh Roast and a Behmor for roasting, I think I prefer air over drum

wishbone Roasting is fascinating. Adjusting the roast level will elicit diverse aromas and flavors. My favorite beans by country are Kenya, Colombia, Guatemala and Indonesia.
