Release Yes, Wilson does not have the reputation for golf equipment like they used to have. Decades ago Wilson produced some very nice golf clubs.
They went downhill when they introduced those damn fat shaft clubs. Esp. the drivers. Even with the stiffest shaft available, they were nothing but noodles and caused hooks/slices; it was so hard to square the face. That said, I still have one of the drivers and my son can just beat hell out of that thing, to the tune of 300+. And it's an R flex @ 44".
Their Deep Red II irons were damn nice, esp. the Tour model, which was a great looking club. Even now, their Tour irons are great looking, but priced too high in the market place, for the Wilson name. But, then again, as I said, they will not sell cheap in order to keep their perceived status (as a seller of high dollar equipment).
I was told many years ago when I was in business, keep the price at, or above, the competition. Obviously, it's not hurting Wilson. Yet.
Dick's has this yrs. Wilson driver 'on sale' at $379 this weekend!! Lowest price of the year, after starting out around that same $450 mark of the Triton. With TGC having a big stake in this driver, I doubt it will sit on shelves very long at the higher price, if not moving(somewhat) quickly. Time will certainly tell.
