I feel this forum is more active lately then FGI was after the change. However, the PM/Email thing is a big issue that needs to be addressed soon.
The "New FGI" Wasn't Much - Neither Is This Forum
I much flea market (like was on FGI) would be a major help. I know I am old but on this forum I am still trying to figure out the difference between latest and newest. For me this is not the easiest forum to navigate.

I was thinking this myself today. One reason it is not really busy now is the golf season really doesn't start for another few months. It is always slow this time of year especially when we were on FGI.
The way I look at it is this forum will be what we make of it....continually pissing and moaning will lead to this forum going the way of the dodo, although having more features would be nice and possibly draw in more members. Not a deal breaker for me, but maybe once the membership grows, we can be in a position to ask.
letthebigdogshunt It is always slow this time of year especially when we were on FGI.
This is true for the past several years when FGI was in the downward spiral. The first eight or more years of the forum activity usually picked up when the golf season shut down. It was called the "silly season."
I always thought "the silly season" was a Nascar term when they shutdown after the last race and before the start of Speed Weeks at Daytona Rick?
At least I can post a pic now.
Any forum is only as good as its members. So when people start posting more it will pick up over time.
We need the features you describe and will try to get those by end of this year.
But mostly this is a life raft for all the long-time FGIers that want to keep the conversation going. If it grows then great. If not, it can remain the cozy local (but not so local) golf club.
Some people are only ever glass half empty folks.
Agee with Jrock, it's all about the membership, if not happy here, move on.
I have tried 4 other forums since fgi went south.
This is where I feel most comfortable and like where I want
to be . Always want more and better , just like life and golf, but thankful for what we've got even more .
Keep up the banter guys, you all are an interesting blend of personalities and different ideas and variety is the spice of life as they say .

This forum ROCKS!! Well, almost................well, not yet.................well one day, maybe. Keep posting, gang,
I like this because everyone I've grown to know is here. I'm on one forum where there is probably less than 20 active posters...it's pretty cool.
Some if the other forums are big and it'll take a long time to get in the clique.

I agree and the reason why I started this thread. I hope this forum will grow and not die off like the "New FGI" that never gained traction because a lack of some basic features like email and swap shop. If the current format is what it will always be that is fine and I appreciate Justin giving us this format. It was just my hope that maybe a few tweaks with more bells and whistles would attract more members and get it on track to be more like the original FGI. BTW I still have my FGI round towel that was a perk for the FGI Premium Membership sign up.
I'd like to see a category for 'Golf Course Reviews'. I travel for business/pleasure and get the opportunity to play golf with friends and clients. I could 'prime the pump' with several recent reviews to get it started and believe it would be helpful to anyone visiting the area on their future trips so the information doesn't get lost in the Clubhouse.

The old FGI is like that first girl who taught you how to copulate.
She was great but there's a reason she's no longer with you. And she's not coming back.
Let's see how this place does when the cold/snowy weather guys start golfing less.....that'll be the test!
Golfbuzz beats the hell out of WRX,I get a virus almost every time I go there for any extended period of time.
Plus this format is way more user friendly than the "new" FGI ever was and doesn't seem to crash either.
I spent two years in London, in 2012 joined a "prestigious" club with two great golf courses, well maintained. I ended my membership 4 months within having joined, $5000 flushed down the toilet. Spent 3 months not playing golf over the winter, then joined a more traditional golf club that April, ho-hum layout, so-so conditions. I absolutely loved it.
The difference? The people I met and the friends I made.
You can have all the bells and whistles, but if you don't have good people to share the experience with? You might as well spend the rest of your life hitting balls on the range.
PA you are so right. I have four other forums I visit and two of them I have been dropping in on for over ten years. However none of them do I really feel like I am comfortable while there FGI was the one that I felt like it was just home. Still waiting for GolfBuzz to feel the same way. It is better than the others, but not back to the comfort level of FGI so far. Not knocking it just saying what I feel right now.
Members make the forum, not the software.
