The "New FGI" Wasn't Much - Neither Is This Forum

I thought with the demise of the new FGI this place would pick up some steam. It doesn't seem to be happening.
Is it lack of things like a usable flea market or or email or PM capability or what?

Sure as hell would help out a lot!!

I laughed every time I checked in here, when FGI was still up, how the posters would say this is a much better place. At that time, there was probably 8-10 posts on FGI vs. 1 on GB!! Daily. And the posters that were making those statements hardly ever show up here now.

Wait til next month, when TW starts playing again. This place will be 'buzzin' and the shitstorms will be rampant. They'll be coming outta the woodwork to post.

It takes $$$ to expand the features , of course.

But the majority of members do not want to have a fee based forum so we'll need to plant a money tree now, by next Spring we'll have what we want.

But why would it really? The same people who were on FGI as it was dying on the vine moved over here, minus some who didn't make the move, so there's actually less people on here. We might've picked up a few new people but probably not many.
This is still a decent place, imo. We might just have to get used to less participation, as in golf in general.

I feel this forum is more active lately then FGI was after the change. However, the PM/Email thing is a big issue that needs to be addressed soon.

I much flea market (like was on FGI) would be a major help. I know I am old but on this forum I am still trying to figure out the difference between latest and newest. For me this is not the easiest forum to navigate.

I was thinking this myself today. One reason it is not really busy now is the golf season really doesn't start for another few months. It is always slow this time of year especially when we were on FGI.

This is true for the past several years when FGI was in the downward spiral. The first eight or more years of the forum activity usually picked up when the golf season shut down. It was called the "silly season."

The way I look at it is this forum will be what we make of it....continually pissing and moaning will lead to this forum going the way of the dodo, although having more features would be nice and possibly draw in more members. Not a deal breaker for me, but maybe once the membership grows, we can be in a position to ask.

I always thought "the silly season" was a Nascar term when they shutdown after the last race and before the start of Speed Weeks at Daytona Rick?

Any forum is only as good as its members. So when people start posting more it will pick up over time.

We need the features you describe and will try to get those by end of this year.

But mostly this is a life raft for all the long-time FGIers that want to keep the conversation going. If it grows then great. If not, it can remain the cozy local (but not so local) golf club. 🙂

I have tried 4 other forums since fgi went south.

I agree and the reason why I started this thread. I hope this forum will grow and not die off like the "New FGI" that never gained traction because a lack of some basic features like email and swap shop. If the current format is what it will always be that is fine and I appreciate Justin giving us this format. It was just my hope that maybe a few tweaks with more bells and whistles would attract more members and get it on track to be more like the original FGI. BTW I still have my FGI round towel that was a perk for the FGI Premium Membership sign up.

I like this because everyone I've grown to know is here. I'm on one forum where there is probably less than 20 active posters...it's pretty cool.

Some if the other forums are big and it'll take a long time to get in the clique.

I'd like to see a category for 'Golf Course Reviews'. I travel for business/pleasure and get the opportunity to play golf with friends and clients. I could 'prime the pump' with several recent reviews to get it started and believe it would be helpful to anyone visiting the area on their future trips so the information doesn't get lost in the Clubhouse.
