TGC ad for next year's Players Championship keeps airing with Tiger's putt from 2001. With all due respect for his accomplishments, I wonder how other pros feel about it. It's a 19 year old shot by a player who is arguably not relevant. I'm betting there's some more recent memorable shots in that event that could be used. Am I reacting as a hater? I loved watching him in his prime, but.......

I’m with ya. I’m no hater of Tiger, but I DO hate the overuse of that particular clip by ad agencies and the Golf Channel. While I don’t feel that Tiger is “not relevant” yet, there are many other players on today’s tour who can bring in not only cash for advertisers, but also up viewership. They deserve their time in the spotlight. Someday Tiger will leave the stage, so ad agencies and the Golf Channel may wanna pay attention now and make the needed adjustments to stay relevant themselves.

Sorry. I’d say “reacting as a hater”. I honestly don’t care if they use it or not. I also don’t recall a single moment bigger than that one in that tournament regardless of whom the person was.

As far as Tiger goes, the guy moves the needle more than anyone else in golf. No other has his marketing power and he is the “current” Masters champion with multiple wins in the past 2-3 seasons so the no longer relevant appears to me to be a 100% “hater” comment.

Now if the guy hadn’t won in 5-10 years, that would be a different story. HeII, I’m guessing they will still use it well after he retires.

I'm a hater - at least where it involves that commercial. They used and overused the same one last year.

How about the shots Ricky Fowler hit on 17 to take dow Sergio Garcia. A little more recent and very impressive.

garyt1957 That was a good call at the time but they're making me hate it by using it so much

THAT is my point. They're wearing it out.

They still show Nicklaus' putt on the 16th at Augusta back in '86, and maybe the reason I don't get tired of that is because it was a major... not a made-for-tv "pretend" major like the Players has become. But that's the tour's flagship tournament and despite me not being a fan of the layout. If holes 7, 8, and 9 were the finishing holes instead of the current configuration, this tournament wouldn't be any different from all the other non-major venues week in and week out. Those three finishing holes are terrific. Otherwise it's just another tournament except with a much larger payday for the winner.

Viewership still goes up when he is playing.... even more so when he’s in contention. Classic lines like that and Nicklaus at Augusta will never go away. They always make you turn your head.

This thread makes me laugh. Last night I was watching the replay of CJ tournament and this commercial came on. I started saying "Better than most" in a totally mocking voice. My wife asked what I was saying and I replied I was just making fun of this old ass golf clip.😁

It's becoming like the Rick Astley video for me.........Better Than MOST.......

Only watched a small segment of the Champions and PGA events yesterday ( last 5/6 holes of each) and wow, overload of this one. an Iconic call and shot that they are ruining.
