Timely thread for me. I just built a set last month to try it out. I had done a test club last year and it was promising.
What I did was build the clubs one inch longer, put in the weight, and then choke down an inch. My thought is then the weight is above the hands. When you think about it that way, you can see that it shouldn't take much weight because it's magnified by being on the other side of the hands than the rest of the club.
The build is Acer XV Pro irons on UST DHi S flex shafts. (They play softer.) I only used a 10g weight. I'll snap a photo from my phone to show it.
My first try, not too happy. Next two rounds, I see an improvement over my normal set. The difference I see is a swing that is more on plane. The weight above the hands helps me send the club back on a better plane. And using the Moe Norman/ Kirk Junge swing, the back swing is everything for me. Moe Norman choked down a couple of inches, then added head weight. Guys I know who have swung Moe's clubs say that they just automatically go on plane. But they are sledgehammers.
Now I want to try heavier weights.
