Having said that, you probably already know that those study results in no way tell you that you can be certain of what Rex meant when he posted the hat. You could certainly be suspicious, but the findings of the study were not 'this study shows that Rex is bigoted.' The study showed that a GROUP of people were MORE LIKELY than another group of people to hold such views. That in no way tells you what one member of either group individually believes.
I therefore think that your response was still presumptive and uncalled for, and that a simple question may have enlightened you. You chose to assume the worst and made no effort to actually find out what his intentions were. This is a pattern I see in your posts.
For what it's worth, I agree with a lot of what you are trying to emphasize. I just disagree with the manner in which you are doing it. And by the way, if your goal is really to try to convince bigots to become more tolerant, you should know that your approach (that of assuming bigotry a priori and denigrating people based on your assumptions) is not likely to work. People generally do not respond to blind denigration with positive change.
