Nice way to go out with the ball on the fairway grass at dusk it would seem.

I still am not clear on why any site goes under with with a good to fair following?

It matters not...where GR goes...I go!

Did notice that Spuzz got 2 or 3 final posts...LOL He's still Da' Man!

They used my final topic and the responses in it.
Nice gesture but they are still dillholes.

My guess is that they couldn't figure a way to make any money from the FGI site; and, maybe the "group" wasn't the demographic they are after. So, paying someone to keep up the site was not in their financial interests. Bunch of numnuts...

They would not have gone through the time and expense of the format change if they did not have a plan or think it Had some potential. Clearly they did this because there was a vision to Improve the site and bring it into the present. Perhaps along the way budget issues popped up so they abandoned the plan, but the hard work and majority of expense had been done. It's not expensive to maintain a website.

I suspect what was more likely the reason for the demise was that in monitoring the site content during and post format change they saw that 50 percent of the posts were items listed for sale and the majority of the others were bitching , arguing and pissing contests , often unrelated to golf. Hard ton get sponsors who want to be attached to that and Who would want to maintain a site with only that.? In that regard , its my opinion that this is the more likely reason and if so those members who led the site down that path of angst are responsible for the site shutting down.

I agree, when you let the "inmates" run wild with no TOS or any form of moderation,
shutting down the doors was probably their only option.
BUT GC should shoulder a LOT of the blame for not really trying very hard on their part
        to make things work/last.

Hey we'll survive,we just had to move our toys to a new sandbox! 🙂

Yes, FGI had reached a tumultuous and acrimonious point of no return. Good people left in droves. Shutting it down and starting fresh is the best thing that could have happened IMO.

I think they should have at least left the site up as a archive, just disable any new posts and lock everyone's accounts. That wouldn't have cost much to do, all it would need is a tiny amount of space on an old server that wasn't being used. There was a lot of useful information discussed there over the years which was just flushed down the toilet.

They ruined it when they changed the format. I can tell you from my perspective that I had to stop moderating because I couldn't even log onto the site.

The new format sucked and a lot of people just didn't want to fight with it anymore.
