One year removed from major neck and spine surgery, my Best of 2016 was just being able to swing ANY golf club somewhat again! Next year will be better. It has to be since I just bought 6 dozen of those Kirkland Signature golf balls. Haha!

Sparky the STI irons are strong lofted, but the lies are in line with other sets. I personally don't mind stronger lofts as it makes the long iron side of the bag easier to manage....I go 2, 3, then 6i lol as the loft of the 6 is so strong....and weight up the 2 and 3 driving irons to fall in line, as well as the lies....has worked out great, just gotta get a bit Creative.
Sparky lol, you got me there....now compare them to every other model that golfworks carries and has been made since the te forged came out (it's the same head as the m05 and has been out for a decade or so). A 62.5 lie on a 7i is in line with the .majority of other 7 irons produced in the last several yrs. I get what you are saying, but want to hear what people have played this year and liked, no need to debate specs of modern equipment vs. more traditional loft/lie.
I classify this as one of the best posts of 2016! Good Post LO! And welcome back...I am going thru what you went thru from a different perspective.
I'm just happy to read that someone is getting mucho better! Good for you and your family!
OK, the STi v. TE is the extreme case. But, comparing lies at 31 degrees (some interpolation required)
STi 62.5, TE 61, DMB 61.1, MMB 61.5, STi HS and KE4S 61.8, KE4Tour 61.75. STi is still well beyond the others. It would be OK for most, but with my TEs at 1* flat, that would need a huge bend on the 431ss STi. But man, I still want those clubheads! I just like the looks, and I'm fine with the lofts.
Britt talked about an STi tour version last year, I hope it does come about. And a new C-Ray putter!
Bangoman Thank you much, Steve. I certainly wish you well with what you are going through and hope all turns out good.
I have a couple.
The Callaway Big Bertha driver, 2016 model. Added an inch to the shaft and have hit it very well.
Ping G30 irons, 4-UW. I was gaming the Taylor Made RS1 irons and was hitting them well, but had some pro shop credit built up from last season and ordered the Pings earlier in the season just to have yet another unused set of irons collecting dust in the basement.
So they come in, and I decided to take the 6-iron up to the range after I picked them up from the pro shop. Wasn't expecting to hit them all that different from the RS1's, but was amazed at just how much more forgiving they were. And how much higher the ball flew, with just a little added forgiveness. No loss in distance, more accurate dispersion rate, higher carry (which is important when you don't hit a high ball to begin with...)
Those were my two best equipment decisions this season.
Oh, and one other item. Not necessarily equipment related, but equipment no less. I bought a battery-operated Personal Golf Fan. A lithium rechargeable battery, one charge holds 6 hours of use. It fits right into the cup holder in the cart, two settings (medium and high). That bad boy came in very handy this summer, let me tell you. Of course, it was pricey too... $200. But it was worth every penny - had guys begging to ride with me for about 2 months this summer when the humidity was kicking. Great purchase!
My Ping ie-1 irons with Nippon Modus 105 shafts. This is my first set since my 1986 eye 2 coppers.
Smooth as he'll, easy to hit and accurate. Cannot believe how many greens I hit with these.
Callaway Big Bertha adjustable Hybrids #4, #5 (just recently released). Ping G irons and a 2016 Scotty M2 Select Newport. Scores are the same, but the new additions look good in the bag.
I never hit the I20 irons. I did hit the I25 when I was in Arizona, can't say anything bad since I got a hole in one with them.
The big thing Pete is the 43! Steel....feels sooo good. I really see feel being the difference. Mine also have the Nippon Modus 105 which feels as smooth as everyone says.
I don't want to sound like an ass but I hit these so well that forgiveness never enters my mind. I had the x flex cfs in them and they were crap. Got properly fit and changed to the Nippon Modus 105 stiff and it's silly how I seem to never miss the middle if the clubface.
If u could pick up a used set with nippons....try them first but holy crap. Normally I hit 12-14 greens. With these, that would be a bad day.
I've hit these so well, my chipping has suffered because I don't miss greens.
Callaway XR15
I picked up a driver (9), 4 wood (17) 3H (19) and 4H (22).
My favorite this year is my Bell putter.
Great putter.
These are my faves for this year. Paired Wishon 755pc with Apollo Spectre Lites trimmed to firm with Lamkin 3Gen REL mids and Prosoft inserts. Innovex Type S GDT wedges with Kuro Kage Black 80i shafts. Cobra Fly Z+ drver. Old school Rife 2 bar mallet set at 355g with this Champ C1 jumbo 80g grip.
Just got a Callaway Fusion Driver. Definitely better than the driver I was using previously
I had a very interesting year, equipment wise. I purchased the Maltby ST-2 driver with the upgraded KK shaft. This head is super solid, feels great at impact. The ball launches high and far and the stealth h/c that came with it is second to none. As long as anything I have ever hit. I also purchased a matching ST 3 wood with xcaliber tour shaft. This is a very handsome 3 wood, ever so slightly offset makes it easy to hit in my opinion. Again, the club feels great when you hit it. In the years past, Maltby drivers/woods have been hit or miss really. But this was a banner year for them IMO. Now the wedges. I picked the set of a 50,56, and 62* of the M-series+. This is the model that gives 3 different sole optioins. I am most impressed with the dark finish, its held up very well after 1 season. The wedges are very attractive at address and do produce a lot of spin. I took advantage of the free assembly from all the clubpaks I bought from Maltby. I highly recommend this route, especially over off the rack because you can customize length and grip size. There are a variety of shafts to choose from and the free h/c are excellent.
Wishing Sterling Irons!! Hands down the best set of irons I have ever played, and that's saying a lot because I was pretty much married to my 560MC irons before these. Played those for 8 years while trying probably 30 different sets in the meantime and nothing came close, yet the Sterlings still sent the 560's to the ho-closet in the garage after just 2 rounds.
I know most people on here aren't willing to jump head-on into single length clubs and by dropping $800-$1000 on a set of Sterlings. But even though I feel they are definitely the holy-grail of SL irons, there are several other models to choose from like the Pinhawk Irons, Pinhawk Hybrids, Integra I-win, and Diamond Tour In1zone, which provide a fairly inexpensive way to give single length a try. And they beauty is they're all available as individual heads so you can buy just a few clubs like 5, 8, AW to try them out before committing to a whole set.
