Rickochet Some of our par 4's are still too long because of the terrain so we move up to a designated spot in the fairway and tee it up there and we still have about 130 or more in after the tee shot. We are just trying to keep it fun for us.

Our course put in a set of 'junior' tees when we developed a strong program for them and NOW they have
been taken over by those who need to move up. I have a friend who just turned 81 and a good golfer who
was shooting mid 80's from the 'senior' tees and now shoots around our par 73 most times out. Just goes
to prove what has been discuss above. He is a 2 handicap at age 81 (calculated from those tees).

    Typhoon Rick, you guys are awesome for doing that. I wish everyone were that smart! I don’t know if it’s “pride” thing with some people but I tell guys, “ you’re here to have fun.” They won’t even play the red tees....which are still too long.

    When nobody in our group could get to a par 4 in two we moved up to our own tee spot. I mentioned to the pro about moving the gold tee up and he said "just play it like a par five." That kind of negates the reason for creating senior tees. We also adjust some par threes if many in our group can't make it over a long water carry anymore. With groups our age our group numbers continue to dwindle and our games are declining and it is very easy to lose interest. My FIL was an avid golfer until age 75 and he just lost interest and gave it up. I always thought that golf was a game for all ages. I can now appreciate his decision. We are trying to keep it fun for as long as we can.

        Back maybe 10 years ago I asked the pro at my old course to put out senior tees because we had a few guys in my group that wouldn’t play red tees because of the “women’s tees” stigma. I even volunteered to buy the wood... finally after a year or so they made them and put them about a foot behind the red tees... BUT, the seniors were happy.

          You’re right Don! We don’t have a lot of tee boxes and most cases they are only 5-10 yards apart....which sucks for women.

              we have 6/sets of blocks from 4607 to 7315.
              Our course plays much longer than the stated yardage due to being in a valley so always soft and there are many forced layups off the tee due to trouble. For example , our white tees are 6280 but can only really hit driver 3-4 x. Of the 5 par 5's driver is only used once, maybe twice.

              as such our starters are very vigilant to make sure people are aware of this and play the right tees. Many men play the ladies at 5670 as it really plays about 6000

                Exactly why I finally moved up from the white tees! Using the old formula I've read here and other forums I should play a course at about 5400-5600 yards. That seems to work out just about perfectly for me. All of a sudden I'm playing 6-hybrid, 7,8,9 irons into greens like the 'old days' instead of fairway woods. Really hard to score when you're hitting driver-5 wood-wedge-putt on most par 4's...!!

                    They're a great group...... oh, we're talking golf. It's been so long since I've had one that I don't even think of them anymore.

                      I really enjoy how our course is set up. The Blues are at 5900 and the Whites are at 5200. I guess the rule is at 50 you can play the Whites, but I see a lot of people under 50 playing them, which I think is great. I still play the Blues, even though I just turned 50, but they work for my level of golf at this time.

                      Your game seems similar to mine. I used to get several eagles per year and had two in one round but that is many years ago. Even from the gold tees I can't remember the last time I made it on a par 5 in two. 👴

                        WOW ! 234 carry is really good yardage.... And, that is with range balls. What Tees/yardage do you play now?
                        We play 5300- 5600 yards from senior tees. Sometimes we play between red and green plates as one of our guys doesn't hit it real good..... We have a blast since moving up anyway.

                        Played 18 yesterday and hit the driver well (LUV that Ping G SF Tech...definitely my best buy of 2020!). Anyway,
                        I measured a few of my most solid hits....they averaged a whopping 197 yards!! Thank God for the gold tees!!

                        Seems ridiculous to me. There must be some really long rounds. Nothing wrong with offering 6000 yard tees to ladies, but not as the shortest option.
