kchacker $50/dozen for a decent golf ball is bonkers.
Everyday golfers have to pay for what the Pros get for free every week/tournament. Yet, there's never mention of a boycott of product, in order to drive the price down. The everyday golfers are not smart people.
I play name brand balls myself, but not the model Pros would use. I'm not a Pro. And a ball, any ball, will never make me one. Or make me think I'm one!
I was at Dick's today and they have Maxfli U Tour balls that are 6 piece (yes 6) with a urethane cover for $29.99 a dozen.
Anybody try these?
More layers in construction does not equal to more benefit.
Think of what kind of swing speed will be required to utilize all 6 layers ? They can't design all 6 layers to be compressed without making it way too mushy.
Most of the golfers wouldn't even compress fully a 3 layered soft golf ball.
Never had played a 6 layered golf ball, the most layered golf ball I had played stopped at 4, for warmer weather when the designed feature could be utilized .
Winter golf or me would be the 2 piece soft compression golf balls.
Yea, wasn't really commenting on the 6 layers, (which I thought was probably overkill) but another cheap alternative in the urethane covered arena. Sometimes Dick's has these on sale for $15. I checked some reviews and they've been out awhile and get good reviews. I think I'll buy a dozen if I can't get some Kirklands before my Vegas trip. The maxfli's come in 3 varieties to match various swing speeds.
Just came back from Costco, filling up the SUV and getting the weekly provisions.
The Kirkland Signature Golf Balls are in our local store. Still at $15.99 per box of 2 doz.

After all the hoarders here had their orders filled. I really don't believe anyone was making the reasonable profit margin with the current $29.99 / 24 balls. This price is near the whole sale mark, either the factory or the Costco will probably move the price line up soon.
I might take a trip to the Vancouver BC area near the end of the year, weather depending of course.

I'd put this KS golf ball closer to the V1X instead of the V1, the feel and the distance off the driver .... all closer to the X model. But the compression ratio according to their test ( and the USGA conforming board ) is closer to the V1 model.
The golf spy lab has some very good review on golf equipment.
I would get some of these but the $55 to join Costco for the one or two packs I would buy is still a good deal, but I don't play enough golf anymore.
It is fun finding a ball on the cheap that performs. About 10 years ago I found those Top Flight TL tours for $8 a dozen that was 95% of a proV1 back then.
Ask a friend close by with the membership to get you the 24 pack ?
If you have a family, the membership fee will redeem itself with the first visit to the warehouse.
Even if you're a single, if you're willing to divide and package your provisions, you'll probably make the fee back within the first month or two.
Then of course, if you have the executive membership with CiTi VISA, you'll get 4% back on gasoline purchase, 3 % on restaurants, 2% on most the Costco items and 1% on everything else. That rebate will pay for your fees in a hurry.

Yes, not every item in the warehouse is the absolute bottom price, but you don't need to drive miles to different locations to get bargain priced door buster deals.
But if you don't play much golf now then it makes no sense to get additional golf balls. I'd befriend someone works or volunteers at local golf courses and get all the golf balls you want from them.
Received another "survey" from Titleist equipment.
Majority of the questions were targeted to golf balls, do you think they are a bit nervous of the new competition with much lower price point ?
Not to start a tirade, but here in lies an issue. ProV1 balls are made in the US. These balls in Korea. Yes, a large part of the Pv1 cost is the advertising. Competition is a good thing, but this is an example in part why there are few manufacturing jobs in the US. The US cannot compete with 3rd world pricing on labor.
